Flyers take 2-0 lead on Maple Leafs

They defeated the New Jersey Devils in the Stanley Cup Quarterfinals, and as of Wednesday morning, the Flyers were leading their semifinal series against the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-0. Both games were played in Philadelphia at the Wachovia Center where the crowds were going so crazy that you would have thought the Flyers just won the Stanley Cup.

Hanson to ‘get up and go’ with new album ‘Underneath’

Six and seven years ago teenage girls all over the world cried, sang, smiled, and screamed for that band who made their hearts flutter. No, the band you're thinking of is not NSync or the Backstreet Boys. It's those long, blond-haired boys who barely have any hair now, Hanson.

FCC censorship over broadcasting debatable issue

The FCC's censorship rules have gone into full effect ever since the Super Bowl incident with Janet Jackson, which occurred in early February. TV shows that were once able to say risqu

A cheap spring break tradition

Spring break is quickly approaching. In just one or two days, many students will be flying to Cancun, Europe, or taking a trip down to the shore. But, there's a place not many people would think of as a spring break hang out. Let me give you a hint: there's lots of books, classrooms, teachers, dorms, etc.

Waning off your regular mindtrack

I know it's been almost two weeks, and everyone and their mother knows about the Janet Jackson breast-baring stunt that happened at the Super Bowl. I personally think that not one more person should write or speak about it. That's why when you read this, you need to understand that I've completely contradicted myself.

One stocking missing this Christmas

Tis the season for shopping, cookies, ornaments, friends, gifts, and most importantly, family. Many students on campus, excluding myself since I'm a commuter, have not seen their families since they were dropped off in late August. But now is the time to go home and see old friends and perform the Christmas traditions you've been doing since you were born.

Good-bye to early Sundays and collection baskets

Each person in my family was baptized Catholic, but that doesn't mean we all practice Catholicism. I've been going to Catholic school since I was five years old. I'm now 20. I was just like every other Catholic school kid growing up. I went to "first Friday" mass with my class, memorized the Act of Contrition while waiting in line for confession, went to mass every Sunday, and said every response on que while staring off into space thinking about what I was going to do that day.

Fireworks and fame for a budding star

When you sit and talk to San Franciscan singer/songwriter Matt Nathanson, you feel like you are talking to a friend you have known since you were five years old. Jeans and a t-shirt, messy/spiky hair, and a nose ring are Nathanson's signature style that has made him stand out from the rest.

Can you hear me now?

It's like an epidemic. Ever since the late '90s, cell phone users have been popping up everywhere. When getting out of class, students can be seen walking around campus either talking to someone they're with or talking on their cell phone. It's something that is seen as so normal and natural now.

The summer’s out of reach

This past summer wasn't exactly the best I've had. Actually, after talking to people on campus it doesn't seem as though many people had a good summer. I was going to go the negative route and just complain about how it rained every other day, but I decided against it, because I realized there were little things that made it just perfect.

Ratings high for gay shows

Over 10 years ago, gay people were exactly what viewers did not want to see on their television sets. A fairly large amount of people tried to think of every possible excuse to have them banned. But this did not stop them, and slowly gay characters started creeping up on networks.

‘Cinderella Waltz’ prepares to dance into Grace Hall

Quiet on the set! It is time for Cabrini's spring performance of "Cinderella Waltz." A crazy, comedic, hillbilly version of Cinderella with a twist of class. Directors, senior Kit Dewey, and junior Haven McMickle are more than excited to be directing the show and enjoy working with the small, hard-working cast.

Public affection not as offensive while in love

Hey to all you single people out there! Don't you hate it when you see public displays of affection as you're walking through Founder's Hall or while sitting in the Wigwam with your soda and chicken finger wrap? Come on; admit it. All you want to do is go over to the couple and say, "Get a room!" I used to feel that way, too.

Freshmen retention rate low, 15% leave

It is estimated that 15 percent of freshmen students transfer out of Cabrini each year. So why do so many freshmen transfer during their first year? "That's a national phenomenon. I think people aren't sure in their freshmen year what they want to do or what they want to be.

Santos-Gainer resigns from PR position

Nancy Santos-Gainer, executive director of marketing and communications, has resigned from her position. This will be effective at the end of the academic year. According to President Antoinette Iadarola, Santos-Gainer's decision to stay until May is just one example of her personal dedication to her work and the mission of the school.

Annual report says Iadarola makes $150/k

According to the Chronicle for Higher Education, President Antoinette Iadarola makes over $150,000 a year for her contributions to the college. So what exactly does her job entail? The president is considered the principal executive officer and is in charge of all the decisions made for the college.

Students MIA at activities meeting

Students complain about having nothing to do on campus on the weekends, but when Student Activities asks for suggestions, no one speaks up. On Monday, Dec. 2, an invitational meeting was held in the New Residence Hall for students to give ideas on activities that would make them want to leave their suitcases in their dorm.

Pubic Safety: trained for campus action

There are presently 23 Public Safety officers, 12 full-time and 11 part-time, who are trained in CPR and first aid to keep Cabrini safe. They are also trained to deal with specific issues, such as identity theft, that are brought up each year. Experience in security and the educational background of a potential Public Safety officer are looked at first.

Where does your tuition money go?

The questions "Where does our tuition money go?" and "Why is tuition so expensive?" are brought up frequently by students on campus. Tuition is $18,470 for both residents and commuters, and with room and board that price escalates to $26,650. "Higher education is a business that is very labor intensive.

Founder’s lab move to library creates mixed reactions

The computer lab on the first floor of Founder's Hall has been moved to the basement of Holy Spirit Library, and some questions are finally being answered. Many students on campus were concerned that the computer lab being moved to the library was inconvenient and unnecessary.
