Senior’s last words

Lately, I've asked myself, "What do you want to do with your life, Rosie?" Less than 50 days down the road from today, I will be walking out of Cabrini and never looking back. I would have already completed my four years of college and should be well on my way to the "real world.

SGA lacks voters

This year, the Student Government Association dedicated its' time to test out a new electoral process for its candidates. Students were able to vote for their new representatives, online, on the Cabrini One portal. The elections covered the week of March 23 - March 25, which gave students the opportunity to vote on several different days.

Terrorist attacks abroad tie to U.S.

On the morning of Thursday, March 11, a series of 10 explosives were set off on the train system in Madrid, Spain. The blasts killed approximately 190 people and harmed over 1800. According to CNN.com, 3/11 - as the Spaniards have decided to call it - was the worst terrorist attack in their history.

Medical insurance an issue for college students

College students will be surprised when they are thrust into the real world and have to find health coverage. Imagine living independently from parents or guardians and not having a full-time job because you are busy being a full-time student. Cabrini students have the opportunity to buy out the school's insurance for $1,402.

Cautious words to fickle friends

You may think that you know your friends completely, but I have learned the hard way that people can change with the snap of a finger. It may be because of other influences that they have in their lives or maybe it's just part of the growing process. In my 21 years, I have thought to be close to various amounts of people, but have found out that in getting too close to some may cause me heartache in the end.

Missing the best dad in the world

What is it like to lose someone you love? It's VERY hard to deal with. Words cannot describe or express the emotions you feel. Right now, some people are reading this and probably thinking that I'm talking about your first love or your significant other, but I'm not.

ITR plans to monitor all downloads

Downloading music has become an essential part of a student's life on campus. Since one is mostly connected through a dial-up modem, at home, a 24/7 connection in a dorm room is like being in heaven. "Being that I only have a dial-up here at home I would say that I'm at a disadvantage.

New members to be the voice of the student body

On Monday, Sept. 15 through Wednesday, Sept. 17, members of the Student Government Association were found spending half their days, sitting above the Founder's Hall, second-floor steps. Elections were being held for new officers. Just like with any other election, the officials - or current SGA members - were trying to get everyone and anyone involved with the voting process.

Missing fire extinguishers hazardous to residents

If there was a fire at Cabrini, there is no sure way to know whether or not the student population would be safe. Smoke detectors and fire alarms may be available to give warnings, but they are not any good if extinguishers are not available for use. "The problem with this is that if there is a fire, it will not be able to be put out right away," Charlie Schaffner, director of Public Safety, said.

Reaching out and building communities with Appalachia

During Cabrini's Spring Break, Mary Laver, coordinator of community outreach and partnerships, launched Project Appalachia. She, along with 14 students, journeyed toward Raleigh County, WV to help those in need. The planning for Project Appalachia only began after Christmas break.

Track team looks for recognition

Cabrini's track and field team is one of the least appreciated, on campus. They mostly compete in meets for fun, as they are not part of the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference, which consists of three other schools who have declared track a sport; not enough for having a league championship in the works.

Swim club suffers double defeat by King’s College and Arcadia University

On Thursday, Jan. 29, the women's swim club was defeated by King's College, 115-74 and on Saturday, Feb. 1, by Arcadia University, 125-99. High scoring swimmers were junior Gina Treml, sophomore Jodi McHenry and freshman, Heather Pino. In Thursday's meet, Treml came in first in the 1000 yard freestyle and 100 yard backstroke.

Black history is Americanism

What does Black History month mean to me? When I first thought about this, I can honestly say that I did not know what to write about. In being one-third Puerto Rican, one-third Ecuadorian and one-third Panamanian, which makes me completely Latina and not a descendant of an African-American, I thought it would be hard for me to talk about the importance of Black History month.

Swim club loses first meet

Cabrini's swim club, in its early development, is hoping to get more recognition. Not yet a varsity team, the club is hoping to accomplish as much as they can with all of the hard work that they put into practices every week. In five out of the seven days of the week, the swim club manages to weight lift in two of the mornings, and swim for an hour and a half to two hours each day.

Intramurals take over Dixon Center

Five on five intramural basketball has taken off at the Dixon Center. Games are played twice a week starting at 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. Each game runs for two 15-minute halves. Kate Corcoran, facilities director at the Dixon Center said, "In the course of the season, everyone plays each other once, then we have playoffs.

Suburban campus forgets about diversity

So where are you from? How many times have you heard this question? We have heard this since the time we set foot on this campus. People tend to think that we were born outside of the U. S. just because we have New York accents. When we are in New York, we never question why anyone else would sound different.

Wireless Wisdom: Which plan is best for you?

Cell phones have become very much a part of daily life. In actuality, there are over 160 cell phone carriers, but there are six main ones that own about 80 percent of the cell phone business. The six big carriers consist of AT&T, Verizon, Nextel, T-Mobile, Cingular and Sprint.
