Motivational coach drives team year-round

There is no stopping Cabrini's field hockey team. Win or lose, Jackie Neary coaches these girls on and off the field. Saturday, Nov. 1, starts the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference journey to the field hockey finals with a playoff game against Alvernia. Lacrosse did not give the die-hard coach enough satisfaction.

Late deliveries cause frustration for many

"No news is good news." Not for the students awaiting the Loquitur every Thursday at noon. For the past four weeks the Loquitur has been placed on the racks around campus four to five hours late. Who's to blame? Not the editors or staff, that is for sure.

Soldiers overseas face cultural differences

The nightly news shows pictures of the easily observable challenges faced by American soldiers based in the Middle East, vicious attacks on daily brigades, and terrorist attacks on military bases. But soldiers also face difficult challenges based on cultural challenges, according to an interview conducted by email with a Cabrini graduate.

Events promote dry fun

Cabrini College, along with the nation, supports alcohol awareness week. Over 1,000 colleges and universities are observing this initiative sponsored by the Inter-Association Task Force on Alcohol and Other Substance Abuse Issues. "The mission of the task force is to inspire students to review their lifestyles and make informed healthy decisions regarding substances," according to the Office of Student Activities at Cabrini.

Legal drinking floods campus

Put on your bathing suits, upperclassmen, because drinking allowances are flooding the houses and apartments; all students over the age of 21 are invited to an adult-swim. In other words, if you are a senior and think you have been violating any rules by drinking on campus since turning the legal drinking age, chances are, you have not.

Tolerate the construction workers on campus

These are the true words of a second year student here at Cabrini College. It sounds to me like someone hasn't worked many jobs in her life.

Armed and dangerous, the Cabrini men's lacrosse team guards their puny field, hurling rubber balls at cars and students trying to drive or walk by. After having a strenuous night of drinking and hanging out in the locker room, these guys try to unwind in their jock straps, grab their shafts, and toss the ball around for a while.

Coffee with a musical edge

Starbucks added an extra kick for their latte. One can download songs while waiting for an order at most participating stores. Walk in and get in line right next to the sugar, cream and CDs. Starting soon, Starbucks will be offering music and coffee for under ten dollars, according to "Rolling Stone Magazine.

3 week rise to the top of box office

One of the most controversial films of our time hit theaters on Ash Wednesday, according to film critics Ebert and Roeper. Mel Gibson has directed "The Passion of the Christ." Starring Jim Caviezel as Jesus, the movie pays close attention to the final 12 hours of Christ's life before he was crucified.

Forget Blockbuster, DVDs are in at the Holy Spirit Library. One can rent diverse movies at an affordable price; absolutely free. The process is simple and easy to follow. If one has taken a video out before, the rules are the same. "I had no idea we had DVDs," senior Haven McMickle said.

Dedication and pride are words truly lived by head basketball coach John Dzik. For the past 24 years, Dzik has lead the men's basketball team to many successful seasons. Including eight major titles in the 11 years the league the Cavalier's are apart of existed.

Cabrini Division III for a reason

Cabrini College is not, and never will be a division I school. We are proudly a member of the Division III status, and that is where we are going to stay. There are much confusion on the distinctions that separate Division I, Division II, and Division III.

Roller hockey dominates

Step aside ice hockey. Wheels are in and blades are out. Roller hockey has taken the stage. This is a year-round sport that is attacking the mainstream. Cabrini has picked up the trend and is stepping up to the tough competition. How often does a small college defeat an Ivy League school in any sport? Last year, the men's roller hockey team beat the University of Pennsylvania.

Women hit the weights Pt. 1

"We are not a morning team," junior softball player Angie Templin said. However, Cabrini's women's softball team gets up at 6:45 a.m., two days a week to practice anyway. Stretching lethargic limbs and wiping groggy eyes, the ladies assemble out in the field or the Dixon Center if it is raining on Mondays and Thursdays to practice their beloved game for the upcoming spring season.
