‘Miss Julie’ premieres at Cabrini

The sharpened butcher knife gutted the wooden table and fake blood squirted dangerously close to a pristine white shirt on a nearby actor. Director Neal Newman commanded the scene be tried again as he guided the actor through the scene telling him that he needs to act with his head and not with his hands.

Dillinger Escape Plan graces the church

Excitement electrified the cold, chilling air as fans lined up outside the First Unitarian Church and into Chestnut Street. Kids huddled together for warmth and the smell of stale smoke drifted up into the bitter night sky. On last Thursday, Feb. 10, Dillinger Escape Plan as well as The End, Read Yellow and Trivium played one of the most intimate settings in Philadelphia.

Annual formal to be held at the ‘Ballroom at the Ben’

Cabrini College students can have the "Time of Your Life" right after spring break. The Student Government Association, SGA, will host their annual formal on Friday, March 11, 2005, from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. This year's formal will take place at the Ballroom at the Ben in Philadelphia, Pa.

LCD Soundsystem infiltrates dance floors

James Murphy, mastermind behind LCD Soundsystem and DFA Records, will make any listener dance or at least nod his head. Since his 2002 hit release, "Losing My Edge"/ "Beat Connection" Murphy has been getting hipsters all over the world to get their dance groove on.

‘Rare Bird Show’ storms the streets of Philadelphia

When people hear improv the first thing that comes to mind is television shows like "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" Even though that show is immensely popular, there is a whole entire underground world of improv, even in Philadelphia. Take Matt Holmes for example; he graduated from Cabrini College in 2002 and is a leader in the phenomenon of long-form improv that is sweeping the City of Brotherly Love.

Putting it off

Procrastination is an all too-common phenomenon for college students and adults alike. Excuses such as "I'll do it tomorrow" or "There's always more time" are always easier to blurt out than actually getting work done. MSNBC defines procrastination as "putting off doing something, especially out of habitual carelessness or laziness: to postpone or delay needlessly.

Swimmer finds warm welcome with team

Deborah Williams, a freshman psychology major, is an integral part of the women's swim team at Cabrini College. Williams went to high school in Maryland at Elizabeth Seton High School where she swam on their swim team for three years. Williams said that Cabrini College having a women's swim team made a huge impact on her decision to attend.

Men’s lacrosse prepares for spring

The men's lacrosse team of Cabrini College are preparing now for the upcoming season with an off-season workout specifically designed to prepare them for future wins. Mike Cottone, a fifth year senior and former player of the men's lacrosse team, is a new assistant coach of the team who also works in the Dixon Center.

Harkness brings a warm smile to Registrar’s office

If one wishes to be greeted by a smiling face, head down to the registrar's office and meet the new assistant registrar. Frances Harkness, who likes to be called Fran, joined the registrar's office in August. Harkness who says, "I don't have a negative" about Cabrini, previously worked over in the Enrollment Office.

Phantom Planet heads Spring Fling concert

It's becoming tradition that after the dust settles from the daytime events of Spring Fling, a large-scale concert will take place. This year's Spring Fling concert will be April 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the Dixon Center. It will consist of headliners Phantom Planet with support provided by Pepper's Ghost and Cabrini College's own The Company.

Gina McCabe, a senior psychology major, just received an iPod Nano for Christmas. Delighted with the gift, McCabe listens to the MP3 player walking on the way to class, running errands and while using the gym facilities in the Dixon Center. Local theater organizes toy drive

The Lantern Theater Company of Philadelphia has organized a toy drive to benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of Philadelphia. The toy drive will be hosted all during the run of "The Foocy," Anthony Lawton's world premiere puppet comedy. Toys will be collected in the Lantern's lobby until Jan.

A new film is about to hit theaters that will give viewers a glimpse of what some of America's youth are facing, while highlighting the family and social environments that shape their choices in today's world.
