Students, administration must learn to hear each other

Last week, Loquitur offered comments of assurance that Cabrini must take some falls in order to grow. With the recent firing of Resident Assistants and the unfolding of controversial issues between students and Residence Life, it is glaringly imperative that fair and mutual respect and communication between the students and the administration must be established before Cabrini takes any steps for the future.

Keep in touch with friends

It's really a shame that people don't keep in touch. Every stage of your life you have a certain group of friends who you would call your best friends. When you were little you even took the time to write their names in a circle on your notebook that said, "BFF" (Best Friends Forever.

My life as an RA

I guess the sharp pains in my back began last March when I found out that I was rehired to be an RA for my senior year. I would have to say that I had mixed emotions about accepting the job for the second year in a row. It felt good to know that my peers respected me and that I did a good job, which prompted the heads of Residents Life to rehire me.

Editorial

Soon to be a junior, a current sophomore struts into the Registrar office with high hopes of landing a schedule full of choice courses at convenient times to fulfill final core curriculum requirements. The kind employee behind the desk speedily enters keystrokes of course descriptions into the computer and, to the surprise of the student, reveals that the core classes carefully selected by the student are full.

Community leaders should be accountable

There is a problem with some of the leaders of society today. For every problem there is a solution, but how do reparations start when the wound is self-inflicted? There are a lot of opinions presented as to how to heal and prevent incidents such as molestation from occurring; but there has not been much spoken about how to better the characteristics of our leaders.

Point: Conversation 101 IM vs. Phones

Before I came to college, I barely knew what Instant Messenger was. At the start of freshman year, however, my typing skills rapidly increased due to all of the people I talked to on my computer. Now, two years later, I still love my IM ability to talk to so many people at one time, no matter where they are located - even if they're in the same room! I'm not one of those IM junkies who creates their own buddy icons and has alarms to notify me when every person on my buddy list signs on, but I am one of those IM junkies who wakes up every morning with my first thought being, "I wonder if anyone IMed me.

Counterpoint: Conversation 101

As much as I like to use Instant Messenger, it is not the best form of communication on the planet. There are many things that are inconvenient about the service, and that bother me in general. Don't get me wrong, I am an avid IM user, its nice to have when you want to know who is around, or for a quick message.

The darker days of Catholic schools

Where will you send your child to school? Chances are that that question, at this stage in many of your lives, has never crossed your mind. The thought of having kids is probably just as far off. For many of you, however, that question will lead to one of the most significant choices you make as a parent.

My blood may be my father’s but my heart belongs to my stepfather

My parents were divorced when I was very young. I can't remember the day my father left. I don't remember how I felt or even if I cried. It is weird how such a significant moment in your life can just be erased from your mind. Sure I can remember bits and pieces of time I had with him, but before a few months ago I could not even remember what my father looked like or how he acted.

Finding the leader within

Competence is one of the attributes that transcend all cultures. For instance, being competent as an administrator means you can be counted on to do things correctly. While administrative competence may not be the stuff Hollywood uses to portray a charismatic leader, in real life competence counts.
