Editorial: Cherish the spirit, not just the victories

If you were on campus this past weekend, you can probably still feel the electric current that was pumping through those watching the men’s basketball team on their historic trip to the final round of the NCAA Division III Tournament in Salem, Va. Here on The Loquitur, we want to encourage the Cabrini community to remember that level of school spirit and to keep it going.

Editorial: Diamonds in the rough, recognizing our elite athletes

When a college sports team clinches a berth in the NCAA playoffs, it’s a big deal. When your school’s own basketball team moves on to the Final Four round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history, it’s the talk of the school.

Editorial: Creating global citizens in the classroom

Cabrini wants to create a community of students who are well-rounded in academics but also committed to being global citizens. As the world continues to progress and the barriers between countries are broken down, we need to understand the importance of being tied to others.

Editorial: Cohabitation: the last frontier of gender-equal housing?

The Loquitur editorial staff realizes true gender-equal housing would be difficult to implement at Cabrini but suggests it could be something to think about for the future.

Editorial: Choice is contested key for contraception, religion

It is possible that Obama's contraception proposition may not even ever become reality for places such as Cabrini. However, do not expect it to go away because it will just be one of many controversial issues in this coming election.

Editorial: Beware the ugly political storm to come

As every news outlet is constantly attesting, the Republican presidential primary is heating up.

Editorial: Value Catholic education, protect for future generations

Will the closing of Catholic high schools have even more far-reaching effects than the initial impact on the students?

Editorial: Supporting the unpopular business of education

As many who enjoy the college experience know, money is inextricably tied to the institution of higher learning. From tuition, to grants, to meal plans and to fund-raisers, no student can escape the direct and indirect call of campus capitalism.

Editorial: Ban SOPA: call for a free internet

Last week, Wikipedia and other popular websites protested the Stop Online Piracy Act and Protect IP Act by blacking out their logos or redacting content on their websites. Sites like these, and many more, are resisting what would amount to an unprecedented level of unchecked internet oversight by the government.

Editorial: Remembering Joe Paterno: a teacher for all

Joseph Vincent Paterno. We could not call ourselves a newspaper in Pennsylvania if we did not write about him this week. However, formulating an opinion on this man is not easy. How do you judge a person who did so many positive things for an institution but then also possibly helped deface it?
