This week in history

Throughout history, many memorable events have taken place during sporting events. For centuries, athletes have created the prestige that follows their name. They've become "stars" and have broken, and created, records. For this week, April 25 to May 1, here are some historical sports moments.

Run to get in shape, run to be in shape, just run for your health

Summer is coming up fast and it is time to start exercising all over again. This is the time of year that students get out of school, and to lose the extra insulation from a long winter cooped up in a dorm room, start running, the cheapest and easiest way to get in shape.

Strong finish and high hopes pave way for 2003 men’s tennis season

At the beginning of the season, the men's tennis team had four players on the roster. Led by junior captain Scott Giblin, the team's only other support was from two freshmen, Mike Sofia and John Lobb and junior Tyler Duffy. After sophomores Jim Diamond, Lenny Yacona and Nick Fenton, freshman Phanaro Thatch and junior Justin Christian joined the team, the team found itself undefeated in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference with a record of 5-0.

Eagles’ cheerleaders scouting a few good women

At the Hilton hotel at the Philadelphia Airport, a conference room was filled with approximately 400 anxious, aspirant, females, ranging from 18 - 35 years of age, waiting to try out for the Eagles cheerleading squad. April 14 was an early day for the majority in attendance, as potential cheerleaders were asked to be at the hotel by 8 a.

Testosterone linked to ‘home court advantage’

The "home field" advantage, recently explained by scientists as a matter of increased testosterone, is being considered by many schools, including our very own campus. In a recent study, scientists in London have learned that the increased production of the hormone testosterone may very well affect the performances of athletes and the demeanor of the fans.

Week In Review

Women's Lacrosse The women had a great run this week beginning with a victory over Arcadia. A score of 19-2 on April 9 sent the team into their next game with their heads held high. They had their next victory over Gwynedd- Mercy on April 11, with a score of 21-4.

Blood drives hindered by increasing tattoo popularity

With tattoos growing in popularity among college students across the nation, blood drives on campuses may suffer, including Cabrini. With U.S. health advisors considering changes to the rules pertaining to blood donations from people with tattoos and body piercings, the number of blood donations from students may go down.

Lemieux leading way for men’s lacrosse

The men's lacrosse team is shredding competitors on its 11 game winning streak, since losing the first two games of the season. With stellar performance and outstanding leadership, the team is currently 11-2 and has earned the no. 1 seed in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference.

Intramural soccer season a success

For the past two years intramural soccer has been a hit. This year the league was organized by Mike O' Reilly from the boy's soccer team. Interest in the league was drummed up mainly through word of mouth. People who were interested in playing for the league formed five teams; red, white, gray, black and blue.

Double-header victories clinch play-off spot for Cavalier softball team

The softball team defeated The College of Misericordia twice in a double-header on Tuesday, April 17. During the first game, the Lady Cavaliers defeated the Lady Cougars 4-1 at the top of the seventh inning. The second game ended with an extra inning when Senior Megan Johnston, pitcher, stole home on an overthrow to third base at the top of the eighth inning bringing the score to 1-0.
