Institutions ensure safety for students abroad

With last month's terrorist attack in Spain, study abroad programs in high schools and colleges are being revamped and extra precaution is being taken to ensure the safety of the students. With approximately 50 students going abroad next year, Cabrini is no exception to the recent trend concerning the safety of its students abroad.

Roller hockey wraps up season

The Cabrini men's roller hockey team's playoff run ended with a 6-4 loss to Temple University on Saturday, April 3, and an 8-0 loss to West Chester University on Sunday, April 4. Despite the losses and the end of its season, the team looks forward to next year.

Scramble for housing

When it was time to pull numbers for the housing lottery, I pulled 496. The starting number for my class was 492, so I got lucky, very lucky. So lucky, in fact, that I am one of very few current juniors going to be living on campus next year. Something's rotten at Cabrini.

Roller hockey drops to seventh place in division

At 8:05 in the second period of the Cabrini and Drexel University men's roller hockey game on Sunday, Feb. 22, the Cavs were trailing 5-1, with Drexel scoring three goals in less than four minutes. Junior captain Dave Arnold called a timeout and decided it was time to regroup.

The controversy of the one-sided media

The big news story this week was the release of Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ." The controversy surrounding the movie has been the "is it Anti-Semitic or isn't it" argument. It's a well-known fact that Gibson's father belongs to a conservative Catholic sect that has denied the Holocaust happened.

People losing their culture and parish

I know what it is like to see something that is part of your culture be thrown away like it is trash. I feel for the people of Holy Trinity Parish in Pottstown, Pa., I really do. Holy Trinity is a small parish in the south end of Pottstown, my hometown. It was built by Slovak immigrants 91 years ago and has stood on the same spot ever since.

The beginning of the end: The final movie of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy

It is finally here. The third installment of arguably one of the most famous and profitable movie trilogies of all time will come to theaters on Wednesday, Dec. 17 -"The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King." There is a certain stigma attached to the Rings' movies, like there is to the Star Wars and Harry Potter movies.

Fight for freedom of information

I'm not one to be really big on the Constitution. I know my basic rights as a U.S. citizen and I know what I can and cannot do as a Pennsylvania citizen. It's a shame the Radnor Police Department does not. When something so significant happens on campus that the police are called, the Loquitur staff immediately looks into it; what has been happening with the crime on campus is an example of this.

Get involved, be prepared

Yogurt lids, wine bottles, baked goods, beer and soda tabs and jewelry. What do these very different items have in common? They are being bought or collected to help for a good cause. Breast cancer October is National Breast Cancer awareness month. There are many different things college students can do to help promote awareness breast cancer.

Shocked by stupidity

It was Thursday, Oct. 9, and I was enjoying a nice evening with my roommate and next door neighbor. We did our thing, had our fun, and went to bed. A nice time was had by all. As I was falling asleep to "Fellowship of the Ring," I heard laughter outside. This is not unusual for a Thursday night at House 5; there's usually good fun going on outside after the parties die down.

National faculty says students must study more; 2 hours for every 1 hour in class

College faculty across the country recommends that students study 30 hours per week. In fact, only a few study that much. Nationally, faculties believe students should spend two hours studying out of class for each hour in class. On average, a student at Cabrini has 15 credit hours so he or she should, according to faculty, spend 30 hours outside of class studying.

Campus violates local recycling laws

Cabrini College is in violation of local recycling laws by not recycling a certain amount of trash. Cabrini is the latest in the string of places that are having their recycled trash decline in numbers. This past year, New York City stopped recycling glass and plastic altogether.

Commuter Club aims to raise voices

For the people who live on Cabrini's campus, the campus activities and social events are right at their fingertips and only a few strides away from the residence halls. However, for the many that do not live on campus, the campus events may prove to be difficult to participate in.

Construction causes headaches for all

The construction on Route 202 and Gulph Road has been working on everyone's nerves since the project started three years ago, on March 16, 1999. In December 1991, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation decided to reconstruct Route 202 and Gulph Road in order to, "widen the section US 202 and to improve interchanges at I-76, US 422 and Chesterbrook Boulevard," according to PENNDOT's website.
