Health Nut: Health Services provides tobacco cessation

The Great American Smokeout is taking place nationwide on Thursday, Nov. 15 and resources to assist smokers with tobacco cessation will be available at Cabrini College. Use this event as the catalyst for quitting all tobacco products and take the first step towards a healthier, new you! To resolve mixed feelings about quitting, identify positives and negatives about smoking, along with alternatives to smoking.

Impaired driving is one of America's most often committed and deadliest crimes. In 2006, more than 13,000 people were killed in crashes involving a driver or motorcycle operator with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher, which is illegal in every state.

Breast cancer awareness

Anyone can get breast cancer. The older a woman is, the more likely she is to get breast cancer. White women are more likely to get breast cancer than any other racial or ethnic group. They also have better chance of survival, primarily because their cancer is usually detected earlier.

Violence can occur anywhere, on any campus, at a major university with 50,000 people, or a small college with only 200 people. Anything can happen. ?The most quiet, laid-back person whom you never thought opened their mouth could be the person who engages in an act of violence.

Avoid and treat seasonal allergies this semester

Allergies occur when your immune system overreacts to something normally found in our environment. If you have allergies, your immune system reacts to harmless substances as if they were a real emergency. Those substances are called allergens because they trigger an allergic response.

Grey's Anatomy is back for another thrilling season. The whole group is back minus Isaiah Washington and Kate Walsh. The season premiere was a good start of the drama to come. McDreamy's "girl from the bar" has turned out to be Meredith's half sister.

Celebrating the past

In 1957, Mother Ursula Infante founded Cabrini on the same site as Villa Cabrini. Both institutions lived on the same campus and took part in the blessing of Grace Hall.

We love vacations as much as anyone does. Sometimes we need a break from reality. Yet, we must accept the true reality of the "Justice Matters" curriculum. We must be in solidarity with the poor, the outcasts, the marginalized, and the oppressed as well as be present to the community around us whether it is in Norristown or our hometown, or also our campus community.

In an effort to raise campus-wide spirit, Cabrini Spirit Day was hosted on Thursday, Nov. 12. All faculty, staff and students were encouraged to wear Cabrini gear. Cabrini spirit decorations were set up around campus, such as the entrance to Founder's Hall.
