How did the team do this season?

The men’s basketball team concluded their season on Feb. 18, playing their last game against Wesley College in the opening round of the 2019 Atlantic East Conference Tournament. The final score was 69-87,  ending in a loss for team. Their overall record currently stands at six wins and 20 losses.

Despite not bringing home a championship win, the team had a fair share of accomplishments to be proud of. Several players scored their 1000th point and the team was able to pull out a win against their top rival, Neumann University, during their senior night game.

“It obviously wasn’t the season we all wanted and wasn’t how we wanted to send off our seniors,” sophomore and center Tyler Timson said. “We had lots of trials and tribulations as a team whether it be injuries or things that were just out of our control. But no matter what happened to us as a team, we all came to practice every day ready to work. Coach Mac made it clear early in the season our goal was to get one percent better everyday and that is the mindset we came in we all came in with.”

With commencement fast approaching, the team is saying goodbye to six senior players: Anthony Linder-Creo, Anthony Wright-Downing, Ivan Robinson, Mike Doyle, and Devahnte Mosely. The basketball team also welcomed several new faces this season, including AJ Williams, coach and Cabrini alumnus.

“This year was a building block for the next five years of the program,” sophomore forward Jae Dungee said. “New team, new coaches, new people that are going to be around for the next two to three years.”

What are their goals for next year?

Despite the hardships that come with playing a difficult season, the team ended this year on a hopeful note. They strived to utilize this each game as an opportunity to grow as a team, regardless of outcome. For the 2019-20 season, they are working towards bringing home an AECC win.

“This season did not go as planned,” Shon Mack, freshman and forward, said. “It’s been a struggle that we weren’t able to figure out but this season will be used as a learning experience for our younger players… Everyone has to buy into the team from the start of the season and play every game like it’s their last. The goal for next year is still a conference championship.”
