Taking action on climate change.

Climate change is a serious threat that is wreaking havoc. Some people believe that it is a hoax and not meant to be taken seriously.  In fact, 97 percent of scientists agree that climate change is real and is caused by humans. Many leaders across the world are working on solutions to fight climate change. Celebrities, for example, are among the best voices to spread messages. I think celebrities illustrate the true definition of democracy to get voices heard.

Nation Swell is a website that lists many celebrities who advocate to fighting climate change. Some of my favorite celebrities are a part of this website such as Joaquin Phoenix, Antonio Banderas and Rosario Dawson. This page discussed a movement called “The World Is In Our Hands,” (founded by Todd Krim) which captures celebrities in a black and white photoshoot with a globe in their hand. This suggests the message that the world is literally in our hands and we have the power to save it. This web page wants to emphasize that they don’t this to be just an awareness post; they want it to be a movement, where people act.

I love it when celebrities use their voices to educate people about what’s going on. Celebrities have bonds that their fans take a liking to. Leonardo De Caprio is one of the first celebrities that I have a bond with who opened my mind up to fight for change. I remember seeing a video in middle school about him making the oceans cleaner. After I watched that video, I began to not use chemicals like cleaning products for your bathroom or kitchen sink. So celebrities’ voices can make a difference.

Even more, celebrities have gone above and beyond to fight carbon emissions that cause climate change. The  UN news site gives a photo and brief description of who the celebrity is and what’s their mission. Jason Mamoa, the Aquaman star, spoke out on the plight of small island nations and the challenges from rising seawater caused by climate change. I can agree with him on this statement because there have been a lot of powerful storms that destroy people’s homes and crops.  Harrison Ford, best known for the “Indiana Jones film series,”  supports the alliance for rain forest; mainly focusing on deforestation and saving forests under threat.

These celebrities have power and are the voice of the voiceless. I have not been affected by climate change personally but some of my friends have family members that get affected. Growing up, I really didn’t have a voice and I know what it feels like not be heard. Now that I’m older. I’m using my voice as a weapon and to help the voiceless. Me being a part of the radio gives me the power to let people know about climate change is something I plan to do to end help end this world crisis.
