Words from “Gabbi”

I have been dancing since I was 6 years old and trained in all different styles: ballet, pointe, hip hop, jazz, contemporary, theater and still training. I dance because it’s the best way I can express myself and my feelings. I have always been able to turn to dance to help with any situation; it’s my “safe place.”  Dance is so raw and personal; there are no limits to movement. I feel like I am my true self on stage and when I am dancing. I am inspired by the stories that are told through dancing and how vulnerable it makes a person; it’s the realest thing to me.  Everyone I meet, because everyone is different, also inspires me everyday. It intrigues me and pushes me to be unique when I am dancing.

My hopes are to get a job out of college as a dancer, whether it is as a back-up dancer or for a film or Broadway. If not, join a company possibly once I get my degree. We will see where life takes me. I would like to fulfill a career in dance for a period of time before finding a job in my degree’s field.
