Cabrini women’s soccer team takes second place in the 2013 CSAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The lady Cavs got five of the 12 first place votes and 112 points overall.
Last year, the Cavs had an overall record of 9-7-4, and 7-1-3 in conference play only letting up five total goals in conference play.
The CSAC championship game was one of the most exciting in conference history. The Cavaliers played Gwynedd-Mercy College and were scoreless through 90 minutes of play and 20 minutes of overtime. It ultimately came down to penalty kicks, and the Blue and White outshot the Griffins 5-4 to win their sixth conference championship.
Head coach Ken Prothero is going into his 12th season with the Cavs and has 19 returning athletes from last year’s team. Prothero is looking for leadership from three-time All-CSAC First Team athlete, senior MaryKate McCann.
Two other notable returners, juniors Gabby Meck and Melissa Scanzano, combined for six goals and six assists last year.
The Cavaliers will open their 2013 season at home as Widener University will come to Edith Robb Dixon Field, Friday, Aug. 30 at 6:30 p.m.
