Women’s lacrosse ends win streak and falls to No. 3 TCNJ

The women’s lacrosse team has an overall record of 5-3 and are a perfect 3-0 in conference play.

The women’s lacrosse team had their five game win streaked snapped with a 10-4 loss to nationally ranked No. 3 The College of New Jersey Lions on Tuesday, March 29 at Edith Robb Dixon Field.

The Cavaliers were led by sophomore Jackie Neary. Neary finished the game with two goals and three draw controls. Junior Jess Breuning added a goal, an assist and won three draws as well. Junior Jenn Robinson chipped in with a goal.

The Blue and White also saw valuable contributions from freshman Katie Kucia who secured three ground balls and caused two turnovers. Sophomore Sasha Wozniak grabbed two ground balls.

Megan Barlow, junior goaltender, finished the match with 11 saves and two ground balls.

TCNJ notched the scoring column within the first six minutes of the game. The Cavaliers answered right away with a goal by Breuning 20 seconds later.

The Cavs took the lead within the next 11 seconds with a goal by Neary. The ladies held a 2-1 lead forcing the Lions to call the first timeout.

By the 20:25 mark the Lions offensive juices started flowing and they took the lead for good. The score was 5-2 at halftime.

TCNJ went on to continue their offensive clinic, their lead grew to 8-2 midway through the second half. Neary stopped the Lions run at the 13:39 mark with a goal of her own. Robinson’s goal came 40 seconds later with the assist coming from Breuning.

Senior defender, Mo O’Connell thought that the team gave one of the top teams in the country a good fight.

“During the game we had some big plays from a lot of different people offensively and defensively, which really boosted the teams confidence,” O’Connell said.

“Just knowing we could do good things agasint the No. 3 team in the nation shows how well we can really play as a team,” O’Connell said.

O’Connell also praised the Cavaliers goalie for her tough performance during the game.

“Our goalie Megan Barlow really kept us in the game with a ton of big saves,” O’Connell said.

The Cavaliers next outing will be in CSAC play on Saturday, April 2. The Blue and White will face Rosemont College on Edith Robb Dixon Field. The game is set to start at 12:00 p.m.
