After rough early outings the Cabrini field hockey team recorded their second win of the season defeating Widener University 3 – 1.
The Cavaliers were down early as Wideners Meghan Garvey scored in the 24th minute, taking an early 1-0.
However Cabrini was determined to get on the board. Senior Erin Mclaughin tied the game up at 1 -1 in the 45th as Widener’s goal keeper mishandled the ball leaving the net all but wide open for the senor to punch it in.
Cabrini led the first half out shooting Widener in shots on goal 10-4.
The second half is where the action picked up.
In the 47th minute sophomore Kerry Anne Farrell passed to junior Karle Gruccio for her first goal of the season giving the Cavaliers a 2-1 lead, “It was great to get out there and get a win.” Gruccio said, “we needed this badly.”
During the next 15 minutes Cabrini sealed the deal, as freshman Taylor Mack recorded her first goal of her collegiate career. Senior goalie Genevieve Paulin recorded three saves in the process.
The Cavaliers are now 1-4 and will visit Steven Institute of Technology at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, in hopes to record their second win in a row.
