The women’s basketball team are now ranked No.22 in the nation according to D3hoops.com
The Cavs defeated Immaculata and remained unbeaten in the CSAC while notching their 15th consecutive win, topping Immaculata by one point 65-64.
The Cavaliers improved to 21-3 on the season and a perfect 15-0 in the CSAC. The Cavs are in sole control of first place, therefore, they will play their tournament games at Nerney Field House.
Amber Keys played a huge part this time around leaving the game with a career high 33 points and adding 13 rebounds.
Sophomore Tayler Holmes put up a pair of three pointers to and eventually ended with 11 points and six boards.
“The odds are in our favor so far, but you never know,” Holmes said. “Coach just wants us to get the win and play well as a team.”
Megan Decker had nine points, six rebounds and four steals.
Immaculata did not give up easy as they fought back and scored the final five points of the first half. This left the game at 29-27 at halftime.
The Cavaliers are known for their defensive pressure and for the opening of the second half they were successful in slowing down Immaculata. The Lady Cavs kept their lead but the Immaculata kept the game close.
Junior Dana Peterson found Keys for a bucket with 60 seconds left to play.
Immaculata had three possessions giving them a chance to gain the lead. However, Cabrini’s defense stood firm and allowed them to steal the win.
The Cavaliers have worked hard throughout the season to gain the number one seed in the conference.
Seniors Amber Keys and Megan Decker both have been great statistical leaders for this team. Keys is first on the team in points with 17.1 per game and first in rebounds with 9.8. Decker ranks second behind Keys with 9.9 points per game and 7.8 rebounds per game. They also had great help by both sophomores Renee Oliver and Tayler Holmes.
With a deep roster, the Cavs rely on their teamwork as only one player averages double figure scoring. The rest of the scoring responsibilities are spread throughout the team, which shows their unselfishness.
However, the Lady Cavs will rely on the leadership and experience of their seniors, Keys and Decker, for the rest of the season heading into the CSAC tournament.
