Sometimes a person’s talent and achievements go unrecognized. Individuals could work very hard and do their complete best and it can be common for their achievements to go unnoticed. At this point a person can start to feel discouraged or unappreciated. This is certainly not the case for Amber Dietrich, as she was recognized and awarded with the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges Award.
Dietrich, a senior, currently majors in social work and has a minor in leadership studies. She is also well involved on campus as she works alongside Orlin Jesperson, the associate director of athletics, recreation and community engagement. Together they strive to create new activities for students to get involved in. She currently serves as the student director for the recreation and intramural programs on campus.
Dietrich is also very much involved on the softball field. She is an outfielder for Cabrini’s softball team. In 2016 alone she was named to Colonial States Athletic Conference Spring All-Academic Team, All-CSAC Second Team, earned a .276 batting average, recorded 37 hits, seven doubles, four home runs and 17 RBIs. She also earned a .932 fielding percentage. Dietrich ranked second in the CSAC with six sacrifice bunts, fifth in at bats with 134.
“Athletics has always been such a huge part of my life throughout every season of the year,” Dietrich said. “They helped mold me into the person I am today and I wasn’t quite ready to give up living that lifestyle once I got to college.”
Henry Pettus Randall Jr. founded The Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges back in 1934. He was student at the university of Alabama. While in school Randall received many offers to join honor societies but could not because of the high cost of some of their membership fees. This struggle inspired him to create an honors program that was based on academic achievement and not money and thus this honor society was created. Now 83 years later the Who’s Who Among Students still lives up to the standard that Randall set.
