The swim team has been training and practicing harder than before to stay on top for this upcoming season.

“We’ve been training the hardest we’ve ever trained before, but it’s working out really well for us and we’re throwing down some good times,” Kelly Schuehler, junior business management major and human resource management major, said.

The swim team has been practicing everyday for this upcoming season. They practice in the mornings on Tuesdays, Thursdays and sometimes Fridays. They practice in the afternoon for the other days of the week.

“It’s fun to see the new guys come in and crush their personal best and become better,” Luke McDevitt, junior religious studies major, said.

According to members of the swim team, there have been no problems so far with training for this season. They are training much harder than they have in previous seasons, but both coaches and swimmers believe that it is paying off.

“Training so far has been going great,” Josh Pace, assistant coach for the swim team, said. “They’ve been pushed more in the first couple of weeks than they have in the past. We’ve definitely bumped up the intensity level in practice.”

According to Pace, having more intense practices has really helped the team prepare for this season. The team has better racing times and best times overall compared to last season. He says that the team has really embraced the new intensity of the practices.

“Seeing everyone improve and seeing where our training takes us and just get better and win,” Schuehler said.

Generally, the swim team has had a positive attitude for this new season. Besides from winning, they are all looking forward to improving their overall times and try to be better than they were last season.

“I think the main goal is to just work harder than everybody else and try to be as competitive as we can,” Devitt said.

The swim team does not seem to have any specific strategies for this season other than to train and practice at more intense levels. Last year, both the swim team won the Atlantic East Conference championship meet. It is clear by the new intensity at the team’s practices that they are trying to reclaim the conference champion title for the second year in a row. The team hopes that their swim meets this season go as smoothly as their practices have been.
