Students talk about improvements that can be put into the winter carnival

There are so many events on the Cabrini campus every year. The goal of these events is usually to try and get students involved on campus, so there can be a better connection with the school community.

One of these events is the winter carnival hold by SEal on Jan 23rd in Grace Hall. A winter carnival is a fun event for students to try and get away from the blistering cold and have a little bit of fun.

Included at the carnival were prizes, games, food, the stuff that you would usually find at any carnival. But what made this event different, was that you could really tell students were engaged in the fun.  There was something for everyone.

Nicole Bydalek, sophomore biology major, said she thought the carnival could have been improved and that it should have been in the gym.

“I just feel as though the gym should be utilized for a lot of the events on campus,”  Bydalek said. But some things made up for that such as the bouncy house, snacks, and majority of the prizes. The prizes included Cabrini merch, an hp printer and other goodies. Sophomore education major Anthony Frasca says that CapBoard tries to organize events by what students would actually want.

“Giving students really good prizes are one of the ways we encourage them to go to these events”  Frasca said. This proves to be true because a lot of the students seem to really enjoy the prizes that were offered. Some of the other aspects that students enjoyed were the games that were at the carnival. There was a mini-bowling, raffle trivia, and other fun activities. Though, some students felt like there should have been more games at the carnival.

Kayla Bell, a junior business major, said she would like it if they had implemented more games into the carnival. “I kinda felt like they were doing the bare minimum with this one,”  Bell said.

Also like most of these events, they’re usually carefully planned. Cape Board member Daisy Rodriguez says that when planning these events they try to accommodate wants and needs that they hear from other students. “We try to give what students actually want and make sure the activities are what things that students can get excited for,” said Rodriguez. She also talked about how they make sure to have a meeting before the semester to plan out all the Cap Board events.

This seems to show that there were a lot of mixed feelings about the winter carnival. Some of the students felt that the carnival was a great success, while others were disappointed in the fact that there were very limited activities. Students seem to want events like the winter carnival to be big and epic, which would entice them to come to CapBoard events.

Due to CapBoard having a fixed budget when it comes to events, they say they can’t really go all out. This is understandable considering the fact they have to save up for trips to New York, Six Flags, Dorney park, etc. They also save money for the prices they give to students as well.

The winter carnival can be a great way for students to interact and mingle with one another. But on the other hand, some students feel that there should be more things to do or that the carnival should become bigger overall. We can only hope that Cabrini listens to these concerns and tries to address as diligently as possible. If students make sure to assert these concerns to the school, there will eventually be change. But until then, students will have to give it time and appreciate the events that CapBoard does offer.
