Students transfer colleges for numerous of reasons. Some change majors and move to a different school that better suits them and their new path. Others start at two –year colleges before transferring and finishing their degree at a four-year university or college.

If student’s first choice did not see right, students can take heart to know that they are not alone. Many students transfer schools every year. Students transfer for many reasons whether it comes down to being closer to home or not, to just not being satisfied with school’s academics. This is a beginning point to multiple reasons why students transfer colleges.

A common issue most college students face is the financial circumstances. Going to college plays a huge role in college completion. Going to college just to rack up endless amount of financial debt scares many students, which then leaves students no choice but to either drop out or find an alternative financial aid options.

A recent studied appeared by the National Association for College Admission Counseling showed that about 1 in 3 students who enroll in either a four-year or two-year college will probably transfer at some point.

The most valuable information to take away from the report may be to consume more financial information before hand as well as speak to college admissions officers about what criteria they most prize in a transfer applicant.

Sophomore and transfer student Lindsey Nix originally attended Cabrini in hopes to find a career in the nursing field, but after she found that the school does not have the program she needed, Nix took her career path elsewhere.

“I enjoyed every moment of cabrini from understanding the concept of psychology with Dr. Gordon to being involved in numerous students activities and groups such as running for Vice President,” Nix said. “Unfortunately cabrini didn’t have nursing as a academic program which I intended to pursue.”

Another student Cheyenne Irizarry who is a sociology major, Irizarry was at a point in time, where she was planned on leaving cabrini her freshman year. Due to the help of the financial aid office and the support from faculty members Irizarry was able to mend her financial burdens. Irizarry said, “I considered transferring because I felt that there wasn’t a wide variety of activities on campus that I could participate in and at times I felt bored,” Irizarry said. “If it wasn’t for my friend going off campus and trying to find different actives I would have left.”
