It’s the end of the year and that of course means three things here at Cabrini College; the seniors are (hopefully) graduating, finals are just around the corner and of course, Spring Fling weekend. Normally Spring Fling is held on the commons but this year it was fenced in behind the Mansion.
Besides the fact that it reminded me of being herded like a flock of sheep, I thought holding the event behind the Mansion made the area bigger for students and guests to walk around and find a place to sit and talk.
I saw a mixture of reactions from the other people who came out to Spring Fling last Saturday. Some of them were excited about the human fooseball, sumo wrestling, Henna tattoos, Fat Jack’s and the various bands and activities which CAP Board set up for everyone.
The main complaint was about dinner, most people didn’t like the blue tickets and having to hand them in for dinner and only being allowed one drink and one trip to the food tables. I also hear some interesting reactions to the three bands that performed at Spring Fling, the worst being the last “band”John Vegaz and the Legion I think, which consisted of three white rappers from Virginia I believe. They were the worst performance of the day. They couldn’t even keep up with their own beats.
Aside from the festivities taking place on the Mansion lawn, most of the campus gravitated to house 5 which is just a few feet from where the Spring Fling activities were raging on. Just about the entire campus crowded the house, though as far as I know nothing major happened aside from a student dancing frantically in his undergarments outside.
The school’s radio station, WYBF FM 98.1 The Burn kicked off Spring Fling with the last dance of the year as they do every year. The dance was fun, including a cut out ‘homie’ that people could stick their head in and take a picture with and a free styling competition that flopped a little more then last year’s.
Overall, I think that this year’s fling was the best one I’ve attended so far though I was a little disappointed that the rock-climbing wall never showed up and the fact that in order to get a T-shirt, I would have had to pay $6. It saddens me that I have a shirt from each Fall Fest and Spring Fling except this year because I didn’t have the money to buy one.
Saturday night capped off with the Latinos Unidos sponsored block party which featured salsa dancing lessons and a dancing contest after WYBF’s co-sposonered wing eating contest. Let me tell you, after LU’s pina coladas earlier in the day during the afternoon’s activities, all those in attendance were in the mood for some salsa dancing indeed. Congratulations and good job to those who took part in and helped plan out last weekend’s events.
