Cabrini’s career center has developed strong partnerships and liaisons with local companies that recruit students for job opportunities. Shakeyia Kersey, assistant director for employer relations, has focused on a partnership with global company SEI. The recruiters have come to campus to conduct interviews with students.

“One of my goals when I started here was to bring back on campus recruiters because it’s something that was done in the past, however, has not been done in a number of years,” Kersey said.

During the Accounting Career Fair in the fall Kersey was able to meet with recruiter Dana Handy. The company was looking for Cabrini accounting, finance and math majors to become part of the company. “After that we set up a date for on campus interviews and that’s when the relationship really started.”

SEI’s headquarters in in Oaks, Pa., in close proximity to the college as it is just outside of Philadelphia.

In December, a class of students had the opportunity to tour the company and have an insider’s glimpse into the atmosphere of the business and goals to the operations.

“During Dr. Malm’s class, he was really teaching the students about what technology looked like at companies. SEI is a good example of that,” Kersey said.

Students were able to meet and network with employees of many different backgrounds. “There were different people from various departments that spoke with us and told us how theu used technology and how it helped their clients,” Kersey said.

At the end of the tour, students were able to meet with some of the job recruiters that would be conducting interviews on campus.

“One of the things that SEI does is provide the technology platform for other companies to offer wealth management packages to clients,” Kersey said.

In addition to the technology and business dimension, students marveled at the art exhibit located inside the company.

Kersey explained that “To the president and CEO, art is something that he really holds near and dear to hhis heart. He has a strong appreciation. He and his wife bring it to the compay so others can enjoy it.”

The collection houses over 3,000 works of art that CEO Al Wesst has acquired.

A few weeks ago, 7 out of 11 of the applicants interviewed for the fund accounting position at SEI. Two interviewwes were Cabrini alumni. The Center for Carrer and Professional Development is commited to assiting both current students and graduates.

The students snet their resumes to the center for revisions and were given vital advice including to have questions in mind about the company and to be able to talk about their experiences and skills.

“One thing that a recruiter is always going to ask you is “Tell me a little about yourself.”’ They want to make sure they are knowledgeable about the company and the position they are applying for.”

SEI is a global company which offers many perks for those considering their options in business. “I feel like students are really interested in the international aspect of business,” Kersey said.

“I think it’s very appealing to students when they see how the company is global, they have the opportunity to possibly travel and work in other places,” Kersey said. “It also shows the magnitude of the organization.”

SEI has offices in London, Toronto, Dublin, The Netherlands, Hong Kong, South Africa and Dubai.

Rising seniors who may be considering interviewing with SEI next year should know that “when you have an employer on campus to interview, they have a vested interest in hiring Cabrini students,” Kersey said.

The partnerships with SEI and other local companies offer vast opportunities for students that they can take advantage of.

“It’s a really good branding opportunity for both the employer as well as Cabrini College.”
