The roller hockey team returned this year to continue in its second season. Graduates Frank Plum and Anthony Contipedero, sophomore Rob Cain and senior Anthony D’Aleo started the roller hockey team last year and have continued this year to make the team apart of the Philadelphia College Roller Hockey League. Cabrini College is in the Northern division with Lehigh University, Philadelphia University, and St. Joseph’s University.

The roller hockey team is made up of approximately 35 members. They split themselves into three club teams and one collegiate team with members of the collegiate team playing on two of the club teams.

Senior Anthony D’Aleo said, “I feel that we have come a long way from a club that started last year, and we are looking forward to making the playoffs in the PCRHL and doing our best when we get to that point in the season.”

The team’s season runs from October through March. Their final game for the season is March 23, 2003, and the playoffs continue after. The roller hockey team is currently 5-4 in the PCRHL losing their last game to Lehigh University Sunday night Feb. 2, 2003. The roller hockey team plays on Sunday nights at the Marple Sports Arena in Broomall, Pa. Sophomore Rob Cain said, “We have an awesome team made up of players who don’t play regular college sports, but who would like to continue hockey on a college level.”

The team is made up of six board members, Anthony D’Aleo who acts as president and captain of the roller hockey team, Vice President Ethan Pfifer, Rob Cain, Chris Sprett, Rich Dematteo and Jim McCarthy. Sophomore Rich Dematteo said, “I feel very privileged to be assistant captain on the team as a sophomore. Coming from national tournament teams and different teams over the years, I was unsure how Cabrini would do against top-notch college teams. I really want our team to work hard and move into first place, and I also have a personal goal of winning the scoring title.”

The Cabrini College roller hockey team looks for a successful season and continued support from the college students. With two years underway the teams hopes to continue their success in the years to come.

The Cabrini roller hockey team plays their next game against Drexel University on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003 at 9 p.m., directions can be found at www.Marplesportsarena.com.
