Gamers voted and made “Red Dead Redemption” game of the year at the Video Game Awards on Spike TV Saturday, Dec. 11. Red Dead was published by Rockstar Games, and created by Rockstar San Diego.
“Red Dead Redemption” was intended to be the “spiritual successor” of Rockstar San Diego’s “Red Dead Revolver.”
Released on May 18, 2010 “Red Dead” is the typical action adventure role-playing game. As the controller, you have one mission: to complete little missions that make your character strong enough to beat the game.
Your character, John Marston, is allowed to openly roam in the virtual western country sides.
During this time, Marston’s son and wife are being held hostage by the government and the only way he can get them back is by using his talents as a bounty hunter.
Marston is double-crossed by Bill Williamson, and then has a personal vendetta to take care of his enemy. However, Marston only realizes this vendetta after he wakes up from being shot.
The character Bonnie nurses Marston back to health however she would like some chores around the farm to be completed in return.
What Marston and the player don’t realize is that these seemingly redundant chores help the cowboy to prepare for his battle against Williamson.
The corner compass allows the player to see the stamina and speed of the horse. This is something that the player gets quickly acclimated to while completing the chores around the farm.
The horse is an extremely important key while playing the game. There is a scale in which the player can use to determine whether or not the horse would be of value to Marston.
Once the player finds a horse that responds to the virtual character, the game becomes much simpler because after all it is the Wild West.
For players who are not as interested in following the main story line, it is possible to break off and complete little tasks that the town needs in order to function.
Doing these tasks add “honors” to Marston’s honor system.
If Marston has negative honor then lawmen and civilians will take matters into their own hands and will begin to react to the way civilians would to an outsider in the town.
“Red Dead” was considered such a big deal because it is one of the only cowboy video games that has such stunning graphics.
“Read Dead Redemption” can be played on Playstation 3 as well as Xbox 360. “Red Dead” has been the object of many gamers obsession and it was well received as game of the year at the VGA’s.
If you are looking for a game to ask for Christmas make sure to add “Red Dead” to your list because this is sure to fulfill all of your gaming needs.
