There are so many pride fest or events that celebrate LGBTQ individuals across the nation and the world and one of those events was right here at Cabrini University. Cabrini University Pride Fest was hosted by Spectrum, pura vida, social work club, cap board, and diversity initiatives on national coming out day on Friday, Oct. 11th. This is once in a year event that helps bring the LGBTQ community around campus together. There were many activities for students to participate in including the color run, food, drinks and games. Cabrini students who were at the event had a lot to say about the event and about why it’s important to them and the campus community.

Sophomore math major Ka’ron Sheffield talks said that he enjoyed the event and that he enjoyed seeing everyone together and getting along and being happy.

“It’s important to help get the message out and show that we’re all human at the end of the day,” sophomore math major Ka’ron Sheffield said.

Sheffield said how it’s refreshing to see a lot of friends who don’t usually interact with students really open up and talk about their experiences with the community. He also said how they should have more LGBTQ friendly events around campus. He said that there should be more events that bring them together.

Sophomore political science major and black studies minor Kazyah Lanton said that she was happy to see everyone’s smiling faces and that she was glad at how great of a turn out it was.

“I believe this event is important because we don’t have this much interaction with minorities on campus” Kazyah Lanton,  sophomore political science major and black studies minor said.

Lanton thinks that events like these show that not just the Cabrini community but that the country is making great strides in LGBTQ inclusivity. The student also explained that it shows that our generation is a part of the movement and that we’re better than our past.

There were also some students who were running the many activities around the Pride Fest as well. They also talked about their experience at the event. There was a table where you can make fun of little friendship bracelets and if you choose you could make the colors coordinate to what side of the LGBTQ spectrum you are on. There was also a table where you could make tie-dye shirts or you could even do a color splat activity. You could even write on a message board some encouraging words for fellow LGBTQ peers.

Junior social work major Ciana Marez talked about how she feels that there aren’t enough events like these on campus and that she feels like it’s the same event every year. She wishes that there could be more of an effort to have more events like these on campus. But she also talked about how important pride fest was to the campus community.

“People need a safe space no matter who you are or what you identify as.” Ciana Marez,  junior social work major said.

Marez said that this event shows Cabrini that we care and that we are striving to bring minorities and other groups of people at Cabrini together.

One of the biggest events at pride fest was the color run. Students ran around Cabrini’s campus with their friends and peers while being splashed with a variety of different color powders. This event was to give students a fun way to express their LGBTQ colors.
