Pinterest. Possibly one of the most addicting apps to ever hit the modern-day world.

For those of you that do not know, Pinterest is a social networking site that allows users to “pin” o

r bookmark images onto their account or “board.” Pins often include links to recipes, stylish clothing, fitness workouts, wedding planning guides, cute animals, craft ideas or memorable quotes.

Users often follow other Pinterest accounts with similar interests in order to swap pins and build up content on their boards.

According to expandedramblings.com there are currently over 100 million active Pinterest users. 85 percent of those that use Pinterest are female, while only 15 percent are male.

When asked why they use Pinterest, 66 percent of users said that they use the app to save things that inspire them.

“I am currently addicted to searching for inspiration on how to decorate my college graduation cap,” senior religious studies major Madeline Coutu said. “There is also many helpful pins that provide tips for graduate school students which I’m excited to use at Boston College.”

67 percent of Pinterest users are under the age of 40, meaning that this app specifically appeals to a younger generation.

Many college students utilize Pinterest in order to gain dorm decoration inspiration, find simple snack and dinner ideas as well as discover organizational tips.

“Recently after being diagnosed with Celiac Disease I was having trouble finding dinners that were gluten free which is where Pinterest came in handy. They have hundreds of boards and pins on how to create simple gluten free recipes,” sophomore human resources major Danielle Kinckner said. “My personal favorite that I’ve found is zucchini chicken enchiladas.”

What many Cabrini students might not know is that Cabrini College Office of Admissions has its very own Pinterest account.

The account contains boards with information on popular student hangouts around Cabrini, college tips and advice, dorm room inspiration as well as an entire collection of photos taken around campus.

“Incoming students should check out our Pinterest account because it’s a more personalized tool to get acquainted with campus before move in day,” Lauren Savage, Cabrini College admissions counselor, said. “This can be especially helpful to students who live far away from campus and find it difficult to plan a visit.”

The account currently has 82 followers with over 425 pins.

“Pinterest is not a hobby it’s a lifestyle,” joked Kinckner. “If you’re not already addicted I definitely suggest downloading the app.”
