Ever wonder what happened before Dorothy met the Wizard of Oz? Ever wonder how the Wizard of Oz came about? In the new 2013 movie, Oz the Great and Powerful, Oscar Diggs played by James Franco is a small-town circus magician who is taken away from Kansas and planted into the land of Oz. He enters this new town and is confused where he is and how he got there. He is amazed by the animated features in the land. Diggs believes that he has discovered the road to jackpot with fame and fortune.
His fate changes when he encounters the cleverness of three witches named Theodora played by Mila Kunis, Evanora played by Rachel Weisz and Glinda played by Michelle Williams. These three ladies are not so convinced that Diggs is the real Oz that everyone in the land believes is. The dilemma in this story is how Diggs needs to find out which of these three women are good and which are bad.
He soon is aware of his duties of becoming the Wizard of Oz. He must learn to trust his instincts and put his magical act to good use. He uses illusion to transform himself into a powerful wizard while also improving himself. He receives help along the way from his flying-monkey companion played by the voice of Zach Braff and his China doll girl played by the voice of Joey King and with Glinda, the good witch. They work together to defeat evil and achieve greatness for him to become the great and powerful king who will soon rule the throne in Emerald City.
