On Saturday, April 23, prospective students and their parents had the opportunity to attend Cabrini’s Open House to see what the campus community had to offer.
“Open house gives students the chance to get a feel of what it is like to be a Cabrini student,” Shannon Zottola, Executive Director of Admissions, said. The faculty is there as well as staff from the athletics and support offices, who parents are usually very interested in talking to.”
Student ambassadors, the admissions staff and other faculty members on students enthusiastically welcomed students to campus at the start of the eventful day.
“My favorite thing about the open house is getting to meet all of the prospective students. This is normally their first time at Cabrini so I love showing them what wonderful opportunities Cabrini has to offer,” Danielle Kinckner, student ambassador, said.
“The open house was a great opportunity for the faculty to meet and for students to see what Cabrini has to offer,” John Solewin, Assistant Director of Admissions, said.
Accepted students reflected on the time they had to explore their area of interest before they went on their campus tour.
“I heard a lot of good things about the Education department today, which is what I want to specifically major in. The one thing that really stood out to me is that we would be able to get in-class experience during our freshman year and really focus in on our interests,” Carmine Lee, incoming freshman student, said.
“I want to major in both marketing and communications,” Brianna Lugo, incoming freshman student, said. “I heard Cabrini has a really good marketing and communications programs and I liked how students talked about the digital media involvement.”
“There is nothing better to hear from students about how coming to the open house solified their decision to come to Cabrini,” Zottola said.
The upcoming fall semester is projected to have the largest incoming freshman class than past years.
“This year we are ahead in all stages of recruitment,” Zottola said. “Compared to the past few years, every territory has increased including applications, completed applications, acceptances as well as transfers. These are trying times in higher education especially for schools like Cabrini, one of many small liberal arts colleges that are close by. If we are performing again in the undergraduate level it takes pressure off of other areas of the college and lets us know that we are in good spot.”
Student ambassadors and the admissions faculty staff helped students to feel comfortable right at the start of the day.
“We have a large number of student ambassadors and it is just awesome to see their enthusiasm here at 6:30 in the morning cheering everyone on at the open house because that’s not something that goes in a viewbook or that you can tell someone over the phone,” Zottola said.
“When it comes to the class of 2020, we are way ahead next year in terms of enrollment,” Solewin said.
“I just want to give a huge thank you to the campus community because it is not just Admissions that does all of this work, it is everyone’s job to come together,” Zottola said.
