Graduation is quickly approaching and seniors are ready for this bittersweet moment. They are finishing final projects and papers and taking their last look in the rear view mirror of their college career.
While graduation day may be creeping up so soon, there is one last week where all the seniors can attend events together to celebrate their successes.
This year, senior week will be held on May 17th through May 20th. It’s the last week for seniors to spend time together as a whole class and have some fun.
Many students plan on getting a job right after college and begin the next phase of their lives.
Senior Meagan Kalinoski has mixed emotions about senior year coming to an end. She is excited to graduate but also cannot help but to be nervous for what is to come. Kalinoski will be starting a job the day after graduation.
“While I am ready to graduate, I do not even remember my life without being a full-time student. Since I began daycare at six weeks old, I only remember life in school,” Kalinoski said.
Transitioning can be difficult for college students when entering their career field. Kalinoski is trying to get in as many last-minute experiences as possible. Many of her friends have already graduated or are rising seniors but that is not going to stop her from celebrating at some of the events.
“I think that Atlantic City and the Spirit of Philadelphia will be a lot of fun and a good chance to dress up and celebrate with other classmates,” Kalinoski said. “I am definitely attending those two events, but I have not decided about anything else.”
Dylan Takats, Senior Marketing and Advertising major, is also excited to attend senior week.He is planning on attending most of the activities with the exception of the cap decorating and the AC trip. Takatas and his friends have already planned an AC trip on their own.
“The purpose of senior week is to get our whole graduating class together to have some fun,” Takats said. “Sometimes people may not know other students outside of their friend group or major so it should be interesting to possibly see some new faces.
With all of the crazy scheduling and mixture of commuters and residences, some students may not be close with their fellow classmates. Senior week is a time to bring people together and have fun with the graduating class.
“It’s a scary thought that four years could fly by so quickly but at the same time I’m ready to start the next stage of my life, Takats said. “I’ve been trying to spend as much quality time with my friends as possible because I know that the last few weeks are the most important.”
