Kareem Calliste:
Hometown: Brooklyn, NY
Education: Lincoln University, Widener University
Position on Campus: Assistant Director for the center of career and professional development center
Fun Fact: Huge sports fan especially NY sports
Kareem Calliste is the new assistant director for the Center of Career and Professional Development on campus. He is a New York native born and raised in Brooklyn. Kareem attended Lincoln University where he got two bachelor degrees in political science and secondary education. He then went back to Brooklyn after he graduated Lincoln in 2003.
Living by himself in Brooklyn was tough for him because of how expensive it is now a days to live there. So after that he decided to make his return to the Keystone State where he went to grad school at Widener University. After graduate school he wanted to start his career in Pennsylvania where he got a job as a career counselor at Peirce College in Philadelphia. He then became the grant administrator for the college and later an academic adviser. Before coming to Cabrini he was also a program supervisor at Peirce.
A fun fact about Calliste is that he is an avid sports fan and follows everything from Formula One Racing to football. Being from New York and then coming to work in Philly isn’t that fun being a NY sports fan so his wife got him a sign for his office saying “everyday I thank God for making me a Yankees fan.” His last words were to let everyone know about the Center of Career and Professional Development and to take advantage of it. He looks forward to getting to know the Cabrini family better and hopes to see you in his office soon.
Calliste’s main job on campus is basically to be an assistant to Nancy Hutchison who is the director of The Center for Career and Professional Development. What they do is they look over and make sure all the staff is doing the right thing and making sure the students are satisfied with them. Also just because they are directors doesn’t mean that they don’t work with students. I spoke to sophomore Giorgio Courtis who came out of both Nancy’s and Kareem’s office right before I entered and he said “they really helped him a lot and he’s getting a job to work at the Nerney Leadership institute on campus.”
