Negative views on the campaign

In the beginning of the presidential elections, I vowed to not write about or report on anything that related to Trump being a candidate for president. I, like many people, thought his campaign was suppose to be like a comedic act that was to be short lived and funny, but this joke is now becoming a frightening nightmare and a potential threat to our future. Now that time has passed and the election has progressed, it is impossible to ignore his presence in the race for presidency, so I am forced to write about him.

Trumps and Clinton’s campaigns so far have shocked me personally. Just by looking at social media alone, one would think that Donald Trump did not stand a chance in the election, and that Bernie Sanders would be dominating the polls from the support he has been getting online.

Unfortunately, that is not the case. As the forerunner in the Republican primaries, Trump is doing well in his campaigns, and the supporters of Sanders seem to stay online rather than show their support in the polls.

Hillary’s popularity in the campaign does not come as much as of surprise. Her interest in the environment, healthcare and women’s rights are important to many of the people who vote. Clinton’s popularity among women is not surprising either-not because women want to see a woman president; we want to see someone who takes into consideration issues like abortion, funding on Planned Parenthood and equal pay for women into their campaign.

As a female college student, Bernie Sanders is the candidate I like to see. He wants to lower student loans (as do I!), he wants to make political changes to help the environment (that is what I want!) and he supports women’s rights (I am a girl!). He is everything I want to see in a president, and seeing his campaign suffer is frustrating because I think he is one of the best potential presidents this campaign has to offer.

As a decently-educated human being with functional moral standards, no, I do not want Trump to be president. I care about my future too much to want someone who is openly racist and believes climate change is not a problem our world must face to be president. It is physically hurting me that I have to write about his chance to be the next person to run our country. I cringe every time I think about it. His foreign policies and views on immigration are blatantly racists, and most of his policies revolve around the ideas of making the rich richer.

Elections are coming up, and after seeing which potential presidents are becoming popular among our nation, I can honesty say I am terrified for our future as a nation and my future individually.
