Men’s Year in Review

Basketball

 The Cabrini men’s basketball team didn’t finish the 2014-2015 season like they wanted to. The Blue and White were defeated by Neumann University in the CSAC finals at the Nerney Field House. Cabrini finished the season with a 13-5 CSAC record and 17-10 overall. The CSAC finals loss snapped a streak of five consecutive CSAC tournament titles. Aaron Walton-Moss won his third consecutive CSAC player of the year award and his second consecutive DIII National Player of the Year award.

 

Soccer

 The Cabrini men’s soccer team finished the 2014 season with a 7-2 CSAC record and 13-8 overall. The team lost the in the semi-finals of the CSAC tournament to Marywood University after beating Rosemont college in the quarterfinals. Cabrini finished off the season with a loss to Penn-State-Harrisburg in the ECAC tournament. Midfielder A.J. Bishop led the team with 13 goals and 31 points. He was also named to All-CSAC first team. “This year we played very hard and we were determined to win the championship. Unfortunately, the luck was not on our side and while facing a couple injury problems we lost a hard fought battle in the semi-finals,” George Lambritsios, senior business administration major, said.

 

Lacrosse

 The Cabrini men’s lacrosse team is dominating CSAC play once again. The team is 7-0 in the CSAC and 12-5 overall. The Cavaliers are on a seven game winning streak, hitting their stride in the middle of the CSAC tournament. The team hopes to secure a CSAC title and go far in the NCAA tournament. Senior Mike Leyden leads the team with 35 goals and 22 assists. “The early part of the season had its ups and downs

but we have been playing well lately and that’s what counts. We have a whole week to get prepared for the conference championship game and I’m looking forward to playing on Saturday,” Austin Edelman, junior secondary education major, said.

 

Golf

 The Cabrini golf team is full of youth. The team only had two upperclassmen on the team, this season seniors Tommy Breslin and Ted Nebiolo. The team finished the season well in the CSAC tournament, finishing second out of nine teams. Four of the team’s golfers finished in the top 11. “The season went good. We played tough in a lot of tournaments but finishing runner up in the CSAC’s this year hopefully gives the guys motivation to win next year,” Breslin, senior communications major, said.

 

Cross Country

 The Cabrini men’s cross-country team didn’t finish the way they would have wanted but the team improved as a whole this season. The team finished sixth out of eight teams in the CSAC Championships. Senior Ernest Ahweza had the best time on the team in the CSAC Championships, finishing 20th out of 56 runners with a time of 30:25. Junior Pete Lyden finished closely behind him in 27th with a time of 31:27. “This year was by far one of the best seasons Cabrini’s had in a long time. I think this is all due to the new coach, Joe Dare, who just recently started working as a coach this 2014-2015 season,” Ahweza, senior accounting major, said.

 

Swimming

 The Cabrini men’s 2014-2015 swim team placed third at the AMCC Championships this past season. Sophomore Todd Walker finished in fifth place in the 200 yard backstroke. Walker finished with a time of 1:59:53, which is a new program record. The team as a whole finished with a 2-1 record in the CSAC and a 4-10 record overall.

 

Tennis

 The Cabrini men’s 2014-15 season was a year of improvement. The team improved their conference and overall records from the previous year, including a return to the CSAC tournament. The Cavaliers finished with a 4-3 record in the CSAC and a 4-9 record overall. The team dropped their first round CSAC tournament matchup against Gwynedd Mercy University.
