Start of the spring season

Cabrini’s men’s and women’s lacrosse teams both came up on top this week in their first games of the season. The student athletes have been putting an enormous amount of effort in preparation for their debut.

The Cabrini men’s lacrosse team started their season with a 19-3 victory over Haverford College.

Senior Jordan Krug led the team with six goals, the most of the day, and one assist.

“I helped lead the team to victory by leaving everything I had on the field and playing hard for a full 60 minutes,” Jordan Krug, senior marketing major and international business minor, said. “Every game I got into I bring the same mentality and that’s to be the hardest working player on the field.”

Going into his final season, Krug knows he has to work his hardest to help his team make it to the national championships, which has been a goal his whole career.

Along side him, senior Timmy Brooks also scored three goals to help assist the Cavaliers to victory.

Junior Tommy DeLuca was strong on the defensive end with four caused turnovers and five ground balls,

“We played great together as a team,” Tommy DeLuca, junior business management major, said. “The offense scored goals, the defense stopped goals, and everyone in between contributed in some way.”

Women dominate the turf

Women’s lacrosse also opened the season with a 16-6 victory against Ursinus College. Trailing behind slightly in the first half, they came back with even more energy in the second half scoring 10 points dominating the field against Ursinus, who only scored one point.

Senior Avery Murphy helped lead the Cavaliers with six goals and two assist. Her hard work and dedication to the game put her in the Cabrini record book. After the Feb. 19th game, Murphy became the 11th player in Cabrini history to reach 200 career points.

The new freshman of the team shinned during their collegiate debut. Freshman Dana Carlson scored three goals and a pair of draw controls.

Playing your first college game can be daunting but Carlson stepped up to the plate to help her team be victorious.

“I created space for my teammates to get shots off, and getting two goals in the second half. Everyone did really well and we are all very proud of last nights turn out,” Dana Carlson, freshman marketing major, said.

Along side Carlson, Shea Neary scored four goals and a helper, adding five points to the scoreboard. The team has a strong bond, and it shows on the turf.

“As a team we played very well together, our defense was a strong unit and our offense works so well with each other, Shea Neary, freshman social work major, said. “Everyone played a part of the win tonight from our goalie in net all the way up the field. The defense really set the tone for the game coming out with some big stops.”
