With the season winding down, the Lady Cavs’ volleyball team took the court against Cedar Crest College on Thursday, Oct. 25. In the comfort of their home court, the Lady Cavs were able to add another win to their season total, defeating the Falcons, 3-0.
It was the 17th win of the season for the Lady Cavs and improved their record against CSAC opponents to 10-1.
“We served strong and we had really good leadership out there,” head coach Eric Schaefer said.
The Lady Cavs were relentless tonight as they continuously served, volleyed, and spiked their way to victory. The Falcons seemed to be outmatched the entire game. However, the Falcons did show some enthusiasm and kept the Lady Cavs on their toes.
“It was a big conference game,” senior Danielle Carrozza said. “We knew it wasn’t going to be an easy game.”
With the win, the Lady Cavs will be heading to the playoffs this season with a first-round bye.
The overall record of the Lady Cavs may not jump out at you but what makes the Lady Cavs such a successful team is their outstanding record against conference opponents. Cedar Crest came into tonight’s game trying to compete and keep up with one of the best teams in the CSAC conference and was unable to do so.
“We didn’t have big egos about the game because anything can happen in the CSAC,” junior Sophia Sokolovich said. “Coming into this game we felt confident in winning because we are one of the bigger leaders in the CSAC.”
The Lady Cavs have a variety of athletes ranging from great servers to aggressive blockers and topped off with a great front line that can really spike the ball. Numerous times tonight the Cedar Crest Falcons were overmatched at the net.
“I think our team morale was really good,” senior Meg Ryan said. “We all played well together and fought hard.”
Just because the Lady Cavs have a first-round bye in the playoffs doesn’t mean we won’t see them working hard for one final victory. They host Eastern University in the Battle of Eagle Road on Friday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m.
