How Cabrini students have been handling the schedule-picking procedure

Everyone has picked classes before and sometimes it can be difficult. I’m sure we’ve all had a time where we tried to get a class we wanted and then we didn’t because either it was full or it was a full-year course that you didn’t know about. Making a schedule is a complicated process.

An example of what a student’s schedule may look like

You look at the classes you need for your major as well as general core classes. After you gather your initial idea you typically go find your adviser and show them what you’ve got and they either accept it or revise it. No matter the amount of times that one’s registered for classes, it’s almost always an ordeal.

Eric Soll, a mathematics major said, “Me and my two apartment-mates always do the same thing every semester. We kinda suck at waking up early so what we do is stay up all night, hanging out playing video games and just talking. Then we register at 7 and usually try and get some sleep afterwards. Always a fun time.”

But picking classes for your first time can be pretty intimidating, what do you do, who do you go to and why should you take X class instead of Y? Schedule picking is one of those difficulties of freshman year that eventually gets better once you go through the process. But what is the process like for the first time, how do people feel about not getting their classes and etc.

The Cabrini 2018-2019 fall semester Term Master Schedule

Joe Cicalo, a freshman studying computer science, said “I got to register a little early because of a family issue but it wasn’t that bad of a time. The system was kinda easy to use but I wasn’t able to get all of my classes which sucks a bit.”

For some freshman, such as Taylor Barker, registration wasn’t too difficult because of classes she’s already taken at Cabrini University.

“It was stressful, but I knew there was enough space in the classes I wanted to register for and our COL (college success) class demonstrated the process clearly,” said Barker.

The process of picking classes at Cabrini is done typically online through the Cabrini portal and making use of the Cabrini Term Master Schedule which showcases the catalog of courses a student can pick from.

“I’d like if the web registration opened up at the same time as the registrar’s office and it would be nice if it made being enrolled in a course a bit more obvious” said Elise Fiore, a Freshmen biology major.

Designing a schedule can always be difficult the first go around and even for those who have done it before. But it’s one of the most important aspects of college.
