The campus-wide celebration that is Family Weekend took control of the school Friday, Sept. 21 to the 23. The festivities, honoring Cabrini students, parents, families and alumni, were scattered throughout the campus. Most were free, unless otherwise specified, and others needed registration due to the limited number of people permitted to the event.
Each day held events suited for all ages, starting with an Autumn Feast offered from 5-7 p.m. Friday night. The remainder of Friday consisted of an Ice Cream Social, a showing of the new, yet to be released, Disney Pixar movie “Brave,” as well as Show Me the Funny, Cabrini and Big Prize Bingo.
“Show Me the Funny, Cabrini!” was an improv comedy show done by seven Cabrini alumni who had an improv group when they attended the school. The event was run through the alumni office and sponsored by the theater program. Proceeds from the night went to the theater program,” Josh Muska, an attendee and participant in the theater program, said.
“I had a blast. They were very funny and they had theater students involved in the performance as well, which was probably my favorite part. Being on stage, I had a lot of fun doing the two skits we did,” sophomore Josh Muska, who took part in the show, said.
The following day started early at 8 a.m. with the 5k Run for Fun, hosted by Relay for Life.
“It was a 5 k run to benefit the American Cancer Society. We had maybe about 20 runners participate. The course ran throughout the Cabrini campus, and started and ended in the front of Founders Hall. All participants were given past years relay for life shirts,” Relay for Life Board member Anna Giangiulio said.
The remainder of the day consisted of the Honors Convocation, an assortment of different sports games, a campus picnic, Alumni and Friends Beer Garden, Dinner and a Show performance and Quizzo Trivia Night.
Sunday wrapped up the event with a Mass held for the visiting families, a brunch afterward and a kite festival in the afternoon.
“Cabrini doesn’t have [an improv troupe] anymore and the alumni wanted to try and bring it back, which I think would be really fun if they did,” Muska said
