After falling to the defending champion Gwynedd-Mercy in the CSAC championship game last year, Cabrini women’s field hockey team is ranked second in the CSAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The Cavaliers received two out of eight first place votes, tallying 42 points total.
Gwynedd-Mercy is the preseason favorite after taking the CSAC title two years in a row. They received five first place votes and 46 points overall.
Head coach Jackie Neary is entering her 18th year as Cabrini women’s field hockey and lacrosse coach. Neary is looking to integrate transfer and a strong incoming freshman group with the already talented group from last year.
Senior goaltender Genevieve Paulin is returning and is looking to lead the team, along with fellow senior midfielder Erin McLaughlin. Both Mclaughlin and Paulin were recognized as All-CSAC athletes.
Also, among the returners is the 2012 CSAC Rookie of the Year and All-CSAC First Team athlete Kerry Anne Farrel, who is back for her sophomore season. Farrel posted 11 goals last season which is good enough for second most for the Cavaliers.
The Lady Cavs will open their season on the road at the Drew University Fall Festival, and will play Swarthmore College on Friday, Aug. 30 at 2 p.m.
Cavaliers’ first home game at Edith Robb Dixon Field is not until Sept. 4, and they will host Rowan University at 6:30.
