On Tuesday March 14, Cabrini University was closed due to winter storm Stella. The Philadelphia area got hit with six inches of snow according to weather.com. This storm caused over 6,000 flight cancellations and half a million people were without power.
Some students were unable to go to work even after the storm was over. Junior business major Tori Hall was unable to get to work on Wednesday because the snow was too high and was packed in too much; a shovel was unable to dig through the pile around her car.
“The one downfall of the storm was that I was unable to shovel my car out which caused me to miss work but overall I had a nice day off from school on Tuesday,” Hall said.
Facilities workers worked all morning and throughout the day on Tuesday to clean up the snow as much as possible. The crew was out all day shoveling and plowing roads, steps and walkways for students to have a safe path.
“The crew and I have been working since 2 a.m. trying to keep the campus as clear as possible incase of an emergency people need to get on campus,” grounds manager Augustine Feudale said.
To accommodate students the cafeteria was open for brunch and dinner on Tuesday and forced some cafeteria workers to stay here on campus overnight.
A snow day means students get to enjoy their day off from classes with sledding, baking and even catching up on some schoolwork.
“I spent my snow day having fun sledding and baking brownies with a bunch of my friends,” sophomore education major Emily Shannon said.
All in all it was a very smooth and successful snow day on the campus of Cabrini University.
