One of the most difficult decision for a college student to make is choosing which major will help them to be successful in life.
It is often extremely difficult for prospective students to see, and really acquire knowledge about the various majors a college has to offer.
The Center for career and professed development recently hosted the first annual exploration of majors fair. “Sometimes students do not take the time to really reflect on what major might be the best fit for them,” according to assistant director of the Center for Career and Professional Development, Melissa Moravec.
Students need to allow more time to explore different fields of study. In addition, there were faculty members present from the various departments. This event gave student the opportunity to ask specific questions about any particular major that they were interested in.
This event was a great opportunity for students who were unsure where they would fit best to explore various majors that the college has to offer.
The Center for career and professional development offers various resources to help students do so. Most students are often put under a great amount of pressure when it comes to declaring a major that is the right fit for them. One of the main reasons why college students run into these types of issues is because they often enter into college unsure of the career they wish to pursue once they leave college.
One of the reasons why students often become unsure of which path their intended major will take them down, or what doors will open up once they conclude their college career.
It is also extremely important for students to take the time to interact with alumni that were once in the seats of the students.
This event also consisted of an alumni panel. Several alumni conversed with a group of students about their college careers. More specifically, they focused on what it was that got them to where they are today.
In addition, they provided the participants with a great deal of advice on how to find the perfect career path.
The two most important techniques that you need to know how to do throughout your college career is to network and communicate with those people around you. “In any job you could ever do, you need good communication skills,” Nick Guldin, 2012 Cabrini graduate and alumni engagement & annual giving programs coordinator, advised.
Having good networking skills and having sharp skills in social media extent could open many door for any college student. “Networking is everything,” Guldin advised.
It is also very important to take full of any opportunity that arises throughout your college career. “Say yes to opportunities,” Guldin said.
