The blue and white ladies had a fantastic run this season ending off 22-8. The women’s basketball team has grasped what they always wanted insight. In every team sport the championship is the golden prize out of them all. The Ladies won the 2019-2020 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championship. The cavaliers went up against Drew university washing them out the water 75-43.
Prior to winning a teamwork sport, the Cavs came together with an outstanding performance which had sealed the deal for them to become champions. Four of the blue and white players scored over 15 points or more. Ashley Tutzauer junior guard, led the team with 20 points. Kate Lannon, junior forward, had dropped 17 on Drew. Following, junior guard, Lexi Howard also had 15 points. And most of all, senior, Meghan Matthews, the MVP of the tournament, led the blue and white with her 15 points.
Matthews was announced and given MVP honors after the final buzzer. Throughout the whole tournament Megan Matthews was dominated and led her girls to victory. During that same day, Matthews had reached her high in blocks recording four against Drew.
Since the beginning of tip-off the Cavaliers took off like a rocket. Creating a 10-point deficit in the first quarter between them and Drew. With the Cavaliers two big-men, forwards, Matthews and Lannon they had a helping hand from Tutzauer. She had knocked down five three-pointers to create separation from blue and green Drew university.
Weeks before the ECAC championship, the Cavaliers faced-off against Marymount university. That game the two teams were fighting for the top spot in the Atlantic East Conference Tournament Feb.29 championship day. Nevertheless, with a winning season the cavs came up short losing 49-67. While the cavs couldn’t be crowned champions; they have gotten another shot in the ECAC division III tournament. Now announced the 2019-2020 ECAC champions of the year.
The Cavaliers had a hell of a run, however the team won’t be the same going into next season. The ECAC champs will be losing their MVP tournament star Meghan Matthews as she graduates this upcoming spring. Matthews is an undeclared major, and will be leaving it all behind as she played her last collegiate game. Returning to the forefront are: Ashley Tutzauer, Kate Lannor, Lexi Edwards.
Yes, the team may be losing their star Matthews but they still have the rest of their team who got them to where they are today. While earning the title of being the ECAC champions. Let’s see can the blue and white cavs do the same going into next year’s playoffs.
