There are various clubs that Cabrini students can get involved in around campus.

Colleges Against Cancer is a club for students who want to help others and make a difference in this world.

Although it is a student run club, Colleges Against Cancer is an extension of the nationwide organization, which was started by the American Cancer Society.

Rebecca Tees, senior graphic design major, is one of the presidents of the club this year here at Cabrini.

Tees got involved in the club last fall as a member and received her position as co-president at the end of the year.

“Student’s really look forward to what our club brings every year,” Tees said. “Anyone is welcome to our meetings and the club is designed for those who want to help out and make a difference in this world.”

Tees feels very passionate about the club and believes that each meeting helps bring the members of the club closer together.

Although no personal experiences with cancer are necessary to be a member, Tees believes everyone has a connection to cancer in someway.

“Whether it’s a family member or a friend or a friend’s friend, almost everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer,” Tees said. “It really is something that connects millions of people.”

Tees has had a very personal experience with cancer over the years.

“My father had brain cancer when I was growing up,” Tees said. “Having such a personal experience like that and then seeing every one so willing to help find a cure has shown me that every little thing helps and we can make a difference.”

Club meetings are held on campus every Monday night in the Dixon House.

“We go over fundraising ideas we would like to do for the month,” Tees said. “The fundraising is related to the cancer that there is awareness for throughout that specific month.”

Colleges Against Cancer is a club held at colleges all across the country.

No matter the size of the school or how many members the club has, each club has the same goal: to promote awareness, educate, and fundraise for the American Cancer Society.

“A big part of our meetings is figuring out what we can do to educate and spread awareness to other Cabrini students,” Tees said.

This year’s Colleges Against Cancer theme is Dr. Seuss, so each fundraiser that is held incorporates Dr. Seuss in someway. The club’s most recent fundraiser was a bake sale held on campus in Founders Hall on Monday, Dec. 2.

Rachel Redmond is a member of the club this year and hopes to bring new ideas that can help raise awareness around campus.

“I am a part of this club because I have a lot of great ideas for fundraisers,” Redmond said. “I love to help raise awareness in different and fun ways.”

Stacie Roller, co-president along with Tees, says Cabrini students can help out by participating in the fundraisers or even making a small donation.

“A donation is a donation no matter how small,” Roller said. “We want to help out for everyone and all.”
