Colleges Against Cancer is an organization that was founded by American Cancer Society in May of 1913. Shortly after that the club was introduce to Cabrini College. Throughout the years, Colleges Against Cancer has done many events to help raise money for those who are affected by cancer.
An event called Relay For Life is something Colleges Against Cancer is really known for at Cabrini. Usually, this event is the main focus of the club each year.
Co-Presidents Becky Tees and Stacie Roller decided to go in different but exciting direction this year. Each month throughout the year, a different type of cancer is recognized, and a theme is chosen for that month as well. This year they have chosen one theme and will keep this theme alive throughout the year. After a long debate on what the theme should be, Tees and Roller decided Dr. Seuss for this year.
Speaking of changes this year, another change might be happening, as well. As stated previously, Colleges Against Cancer is known for the Relay For Life event. As of right now what has been said may just be a rumor about if Relay For Life is happening.
“I don’t want to give out any hints as to what were doing, but what I can say is that it’ll be a great event,” Tees said in an email.
This club works extremely hard to raise money for those who need it most. Regardless of the events and rumors, this organization strives to get the financial and emotional support that people truly need. This a rewarding organization to be a part of, according to students.
Every Monday at 9:30PM, the club has a meeting at Dixon to discuss upcoming events and news. Signing up for the club can be one at any time of the year. There are no requirements to be involved, but it is important if a students wants to join to stay committed 100 percent.
“We are growing more as a club, it’s actually a really fun club to be in,” Tees said. “We have so many plans for this year, if you stop by a meeting you will find out.”
