The battle between the Cavaliers and the Albright Lions ended in a draw after two overtimes. Freshman forward Ibrahim Kallie scored the Cavaliers only goal with five minutes left into the first half from a junior midfielder Ben Roda assist. Albright tied the game around three minutes into the second half.
“I think we all expected a little bit more,” head coach Rob Dallas said after the game. “It was a game we came into feeling like we could control the pace of play for the majority of it. We didn’t take advantage of our opportunities in the beginning and we believe it was a game that we should have done better in.”
The Cavaliers recorded 28 shots on the game, with Albright mustering five shots of their own. Senior forward Bobby Kane led the way with seven shots, while Kallie had five on the day. Senior goalie C.J. Serratore collected two saves for Cabrini.
When highlighting the Cavaliers strengths, Dallas believes overall that the team played very well.
“Sometimes it’s easy to get ahead and think we have things under control, and in a game like ours one goal makes a big difference,” Dallas added when asked if their approach had shifted once the game had tied.
Approximately 20 minutes into the first half, sophomore defensemen Matt Ochman sustained an injury to his foot and retired for the rest of the game. Ochman, who suffered a torn ligament in the same foot last year, hopes it is only a sprain or minor break and not a repeated injury.
Senior midfielder Andrew Bishop finds the tied game disappointing.
“We tend to stoop down to their (the opposing team) level when we can see that they’re not as good as us and not move the ball as well,” Bishop said. “I think it was good in the first 15 minutes but after that we weren’t stringing balls, and defensively I think we weren’t doing well enough to pull off a win.”
There was a total of 29 fouls called in the game and Cabrini led with 16 of them. There were also 11 corners and offsides called, with the Cavaliers having nine of each.
In terms of the game ending in a tie, freshman midfielder Andre Justin added that the plays weren’t swinging in the Cavalier’s favor during Wednesday’s game; however, Justin believes that the team should not hang their heads for long.
“We have a big game this Saturday, and we just have to get ready to defeat Eastern.”
The Cavaliers look to compete again this Saturday, at home, against CSAC and across-the-street for Eastern University (5-1-1). The game will be at the Edith Robb Dixon Field and starts off at 6 p.m.
