The Cabrini Cavs men’s basketball team put on a whirlwind of a performance on Saturday, Jan. 22, shutting down the Centenary Cyclones 83-63. The Cavs’ unrelenting offense midway through the second half led to a 21-0 run.
Senior Cavs forward Dom Farrello scored big, shooting 24 and picking up nine rebounds. Farrello, now 36 shy of 1000 career points, said in an e-mail, “We struggled to control the tempo and knock down our shots in the first half, but we turned it around in the second half by pressing and speeding up the pace of the game. We also hit some key shots that were not falling in the first half.”
The win marks the Cavs’ 27th win at home against a CSAC opponent and the team’s fourth consecutive win thus far. Sports Information Director Brian Beacham said, “This is the first series sweep against Centenary under head coach Marcus Kahn.”
Sophomore guard A.J. Williams said, “I think that this was a big conference win at home for us. Winning at home is our thing, so we love to protect our home court. I think that Coach Kahn did a great job on finding the guys that would bring the energy defensively and spark the team’s offense. We will continue to move on in the conference and improve so that we can keep up our run to a championship season.”
If the Cavs keep up their momentum, the CSAC championship could certainly come back to Cabrini. On Monday, Jan. 24, the team faced Neumann University in a rematch of last year’s conference title game and walked away with a close victory of 71-69.
