It had been spoken about in anticipation all day.

Excited grins, the smell of popcorn and glow sticks lit the way to where the cavalier carnival was being held.

The carnival started at 7:00 p.m., according to advertising.

Upon arrival, many aspects of the event were not established yet. The set-up happened later than the estimated start-time, causing students spirits to dampen and frustrated anticipation.

Freshman, Freddie McCrey, attended his first spirit week event.

“I think this is really nice,” freshman, Freddie McCrey, said. “Cabrini has a bunch of events and usually I don’t get to attend them all since I’m always working so I took this Thursday off and decided to come out and have some fun.”

The cavalier carnival was said to be hosted by CAP Board but the real masterminds behind this engaging event was Amber Mavaugh and Maureen Helm.

“A lot went into planning this event,”  Mavaugh and Helm said.

“We figure out activities by doing things like sorting through Pinterest and seeing what we can do as a college,” Mavaugh said. “Then we go out and get the necessary supplies needed for everything that we’ll be doing.”

Both women really wanted the carnival to be something that everyone could enjoy. The girls expressed some of the hardest decisions that had to be made in planning the carnival.

“Deciding if we wanted to serve snacks or actual food was a tough one for us well as determining atime we felt would be good for everyone to come out and enjoy the festivities,” Helm said.

While the carnival was enjoyed by many, some felt it could be a bit better.

“I wanted to come out to the carnival because I felt it could be something fun to do with friends but it’s really cold outside so I think it would’ve been cool to have it in the Dixon center,” freshman, Brittany Lambert, said.

Lambert also expressed wanting to have more games and felt as though this event would have been better attended if it was hosted during the day, rather than at night.

All in all, many students left with hot cider, free goodies and memories that will last a lifetime.
