In the Dixon Center, located in the lobby, the Cav Shack has operated for approximately four years as an after workout snacking area. Students can purchase a few select items from this stand, including smoothies, fruits, boxed sandwiches and energy drinks. The stand is a popular location for athletes to visit after practices to rehydrate and fill up on the right nutrition. All foods sold by Cav Shack are provided by Sodexo, Cabrini’s contracted food supplier.

Tracy Ells, the general manager for dining services of Sodexo, explained that the decisions for Cav Shack’s menu were in conjunction with the athletic directors and staff in the Dixon facility.

“We try to stay away from anything that is too enhanced like protein shakes and things like that because it can affect athletes in weird ways. So we try to stick to all-natural things.” Ellis said.

Ellos then explained that students could determine the nutritional value of Cav Shack’s products by locating the labels that are attached to it. For smoothies, students can ask the Cav Shack supervisor Linda Roscioli to find out the nutritional ingredients.

Linda Roscioli has worked with Sodexo for 19 years and has been the supervisor for Cav Shack since February of 2019. Roscioli helps determine the nutritional value of the products sold at Cav Shack with the exceptions of bagels and muffins.

In regards to how frequently food is served at Cav shack, Roscioli has said that customers tend to come in “spurts.” She says, “They usually line up before 9 a.m., sometimes 11 a.m.. 1 a.m. gets pretty busy too.” Roscioli also felt that the most popular item sold on their menu is the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

Kirsten Searcy, a member of the women’s basketball team, is an everyday regular customer at Cav Shack. She believes it is a very healthy establishment. Searcy enjoys the smoothies and protein bars that are provided at Cav Shack, but her most favorite items are bananas, water,  peanut butter, and jelly sandwiches and sometimes pineapples

“The protein shakes definitely help after a nice workout and I feel pretty great after eating at Cav Shack,” Searcy said.

Searcy mentioned that her coach in basketball usually sends her team to retrieve something from the Cav Shack to consume before a workout, which usually is a protein shake or a piece of fruit. She added that although athletes see more benefits from eating at Cav Shack, students who are not athletes should definitely eat there because of how healthy she believes it to be.
