Student profile: Woods uses positive influence to educate others

Many children in the 6th grade do not know what they want to be when they grow up. If they do, the list could include anything from being a veterinarian to being the President of the United States. "I feel like I've been a teacher since the 6th grade, just without the degree," Laura Woods, senior special education and elementary education major, said.

Job market advances with internet-based applications: employees look to internet sites for job opportunities

There are many Web sites that offer jobs to people of all ages but not all of them lead to a rewarding position in a growing industry. So how can people tell the difference between the average job postings and dead-end jobs as opposed to a Web site that offers successful and promising careers? The advancement of the job market from face-to-face to internet-based applications is in its final stages.

‘Definitely Maybe’ becomes definite yes

"Definitely Maybe" is a delightful romantic comedy. It lacks excessive use of dirty sex jokes that seem to permeate too many films of its kind. Giving a fresh look into the modern world of finding love, as well as bringing humor and a lesson in love to the screen, this film has successfully captured a story of love, lost relationships and new beginnings in the '90s.

World of diversity, prejudice still exists

If we were all made in the image and likeness of God, then what does he look like? Would it matter to you what color hair he had? What about the color of his eyes? How many people would care about his skin color? How many people would be angry with me for even asking questions like these? We live in an age where it's difficult to find people that look exactly like us.

Smith proves her ‘love of the game’

The women's basketball team has been bringing its best this season with a group of talented and impressive players. One of these young stars is junior English and communication major Kayleen Smith. As a freshman, Smith had the opportunity to play in 22 games.

Stay fit for the holiday season

Staying healthy over the holidays seems like a formidable task. For many people, the holidays are a time to get together with relatives and enjoy a large, and sometimes unhealthy, meal. The holidays do not need to be a time of weight gaining and unhealthy habits.

Seven Cavs named to PAC teams

Each year the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference announces regular season award winners and honorees within different sports. This year Cabrini's men's soccer team was recognized by the PAC for their hard work on and off the field. Seven members of Cabrini's men's soccer team were honored to the 2007 PAC All-Conference Teams.

Scrimmages allow Cavs to improve

The men's basketball team is getting ready to kick off its season. With two scrimmages behind them already, the players have been able to see what they are capable of. They had a chance to work as a team on the court against competitors and it showed them how far they have come.

‘Fight for the innocence of the young’

It horrifies me to know there are individuals out there who see no need for alarm when sexual violence takes place in schools, or anywhere for that matter. Have we become so calloused that we no longer feel the need to put an end to such horrible actions? I find it hard to have hope when I see the things that are going on around me.

The Truth Behind Friday Classes

At Cabrini College, the number of Friday classes offered is significantly lower than those offered Monday through Thursday. Is there a major reason for this. Faculty and students speak out.

Colleges push for smoking ban

Smoking bans are becoming more and more popular and the focus is now being directed towards college campuses. There is increasing talk among colleges to ban smoking altogether for the sake of non-smokers' health. Cigarette smoke is a danger to everyones health and non-smokers feel that they should not be subjected to such dangers in the first place.

History club presents forum

The History Club is presenting a forum dealing with the media's impact and interrelationship with American popular culture. The forum will feature five scholars discussing topics involving multiple areas of the media. "The History Club sponsors the History Forum, which brings prominent scholars in a particular field of study to campus to share their expertise with faculty, staff, students, alumni and visitors," history professor Dr.

Sum41 hits the road again for all generations

Yellow lights flood the crowd. A cloud of synthetic fog and smoke slowly swirls above the heads of those crammed in the standing area of Philadelphia's Trocadero Theater on Friday, Sept. 21. The anticipation can be felt each time someone comes on stage to give a sound test.

Anti-war protesters rally in D.C.

Thousands of people gathered in Washington, D.C., for an antiwar rally early on the morning of Saturday, Sept. 15, some prepared for acts of civil disobedience. They joined to march in protest against the war in Iraq, a war many of them feel to be illegal and immoral.

Eating disorder counselor on campus

An eating disorders counselor is the newest member of the counseling services staff. Andrea Sussel was hired this year after previous experience in outpatient and inpatient services. Sussel's specialty is in the area of eating disorders but like the other members of Cabrini's Counseling Services, she serves as a generalist as well.

Bad judgement ruins Vick’s reputation

It seems to me that death is so lightly thought of; it's often tossed to the back of our minds. A fight is just another event; it gets our blood flowing. How can one sit by and enjoy watching the destructio and sometimes death of participants of such "real-life" events? I find myself thinking back to the days of the Coliseum when crowds, in the name of sport, watched as men fought to the death.
