Baseball Club splits double-header

The Cabrini Baseball Club Team played a double-header against Rider University on Saturday, April 12 at neighboring Eastern University's baseball field. The team lost the first game 9-6 but came back in the second game with a 16-6 victory. Sophomore Mike Manzione led the first game at noon on Saturday but several errors cost the Cavaliers the game.

IronPigs partner with WYBF

The Phillies AAA-affi liate team, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, have recently partnered with Cabrini's radio station, WYBF. The Cabrini students interning with the IronPigs will be working in a professional broadcasting environment and airing 70 of the IronPigs games this season.

William Penn statue curses Philly teams

As a true Philadelphia sports fan, I am a firm believer of the William Penn Statue Curse. For those of you that don't know, the curse has been in play since the Philadelphia Phillies, Eagles, Flyers and Sixers have not won a championship since 1987. The bronze statue of William Penn stands atop Philadelphia City Hall.

Softball splits double-header

The softball team split a double-header with Gwynedd-Mercy College on Saturday, March 29 in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference play. In game one, the Lady Cavs were defeated 3-2 as the Griffins scored the winning run in the top of the ninth inning. "All of game one was really challenging.

Men’s tennis competes in Hilton Head

The men's tennis team traveled to Hilton Head, S.C. over spring break in order to prepare for their upcoming spring season. The Cavaliers competed in 8 a.m. matches against Catholic University, Stonehill College and Augustana College and later held afternoon hitting sessions.

Ecuador: Living off one dollar a day

For my spring break I didn't take the typical trip to Cancun, Florida or any other vacation spot. Instead I spent my 10 days off from school living in poverty in Duran, Ecuador. Why, you may ask, would I ever want to spend spring break living off of $1 per day? But, the experience I had with Rostro de Cristo was much more valuable than anything I had ever learned before.

Cavs beat rival Eastern, boost to PAC playoffs

The men's basketball team defeated rival Eastern University 66-63 in a tight match on Monday, Feb. 18. The Cavaliers added two foul shots in the last 30 seconds of the game to ensure their win. This win secured a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Playoff spot for the Cavs and improved their record to 12-13 overall and 9-7 in the PAC.

Phillies must reflect mistakes over a long winter

The Philadelphia Phillies put so much energy into winning the National League East Championship that they were not ready to compete in the actual playoffs. The three-game sweep by the Colorado Rockies spoiled Philadelphia's post-season celebration. Few expected a championship win from the Phils especially after injuries and losses that piled up during the regular season but it was much anticipated since the last NL East title in 1993.

6 named to Athletic Hall of Fame

Six Cabrini alumni were inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame at the second annual induction dinner on Friday, Sept. 28. Those inducted were F. Eugene (Fitz) Dixon Jr. and Edith Robb Dixon, Roseanne Carfagno Corcoran, Jessi Valerio Gougler, Megan Johnston and Tom Lemieux.

First graduating class honored at 50-year anniversary luncheon

On Sunday, Sept. 23 Cabrini honored the women in the first graduating class to enter the college. This date was exactly the 50 year anniversary of the opening day of the college. On Sept. 23, 1957 the college opened its doors to 43 women. Many of these women of the graduating class of 1961 were present at Sunday's festivities.

Penetar: Runner of the week

Freshman religious studies major Eddie Penetar is the first men's cross country runner to earn the runner of the week title. Placing first out of 60 runners at the Mule/Falcon Classic in Allentown on Saturday, Sept. 15, Penetar led the Cavaliers to a first place overall win.

First-year Cavaliers to watch this fall

Along with gearing up for their college courses, some first-year students are also participating in the athletics program. Teams have been preparing by holding pre-season practices that began on August 20. The teams competing this fall include: field hockey, men's soccer, women's soccer, cross country, women's tennis and volleyball.

Herenda named head men’s basketball coach

Greg Herenda knew he was meant to be at Cabrini when he felt a strong connection to a familiar building on campus. Two days prior to visiting campus for the first time, Herenda attended his mother's funeral, a very hard time for him as he and his mother were very close.

Roommate troubles? Hang in there, it could be worse

Upon entering college, many students fear the struggles of living with a roommate. The stress of wondering whether or not you'll get along was a factor that made me think I never wanted to go to college. In my experience I had two roommates; the "good" roommate and the "bad" roommate.

Athletics ends spring season

As the 2007 spring season comes to a close, the spring teams are winding down their seasons. The golf team will finish their 2007 season at two Indiana golf clubs, Prairie View Golf Club and Hawthorns Golf Club from May 15 through May 18. Previously, two members of the team finished in the top 20 at the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference championships at Center Valley Country Club .
