‘Not for Sale’ to focus on human trafficking issues

Human trafficking is a major social justice issue recently used as a summer reading topic for first year students to learn about before entering Cabrini. The college is inviting the author of "Not for Sale," to host his Backyard Abolitionist Tour at the college on Monday, Nov.

Animals awaiting homes at SPCA

One of the first things heard when walking through the Montgomery County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals are the whimpers and cries of homeless animals who are waiting to be placed in the loving homes they deserve. Each animal has a story and a past that the staff of the shelter must be prepared to face in order to secure these animals a safe and healthy future.

Students grasp world issues as CRS ambassadors

A CRS ambassador is someone who is committed to learning about global humanitarian issues that impact the poor around the world and to organize campus programs. Since Cabrini College began its partnership with Catholic Relief Services in 2005, students have had many leadership opportunities relating to social justice.

Students need to consider other work benefits, not just salary, speaker says

Lisa Shimada, director of human resources, was featured in a Life Series workshop in which she spoke about the importance of saving for retirement at an early age in comparison to those who do not start saving until later in life. "The workshop is geared to help graduates understand benefits that an employer is maybe offering them so that they understand what's included outside of just their salary," Shimada said.

Free condoms: Are they worth it?

It is no surprise to me that some schools and stores are now giving out free condoms. One of the biggest questions that come to the minds of many is whether or not the distribution of free condoms promotes promiscuity or a healthier sexual life. In my opinion, giving out free condoms does not promote a healthy sex life in any way.

Dr. Andrew Owen, a part-time instructor for several years, became a full-time professor for sociology and criminology this year. Owen's new office on the second floor of Grace Hall, currently has bare walls, empty shelves and a single desk with a computer.

Bands of the ’90s make a comeback in 2009

Nothing makes a music lover happier than when their favorite band releases a brand new album, no matter if the band has been together for years or if the members are coming back after a split. The big question that comes to every fan's mind at the album's time of release has to do with whether the new music will be as good as the old.

Cabrini’s Theatre seating not adequate for audience members

One thing that can be looked forward to every spring is the Cabrini College Theater’s spring musical production. This year audiences will be able to enjoy the Steven Sondheim musical, “Merrily We Roll Along.” The theater program at Cabrini is in our opinion one of the most hardworking and dedicated programs we have seen. It works with its small space and produces an extraordinary show creating full houses and then some every night.
