March delivers madness with ‘Sweet 16’

The past few weeks have been filled with upsets, blowouts, the unexpected and the predicted. While this is usual during March Madness, the best has yet to come. The Sweet 16 round kicks off Thursday and despite the lack of Cinderella teams, there are still plenty of good reasons to keep watching.

Wild ride over for lady Cavaliers

The lady Cavaliers ended their season on Friday, March 6 in the first round of the NCAA tournament against the Baruch College Bearcats (N.Y.) with a final score of 72-58. With the loss, the women wrapped up an outstanding 23-5 season and returned home heartbroken but satisfied.

Marie Kobylinski was 14 years old when a worldwide economic downturn took its devastating effects on America in 1929. Philadelphia was a city dependent on heavy industry, plucking young children from school and forcing them into work. It was C Street in the Kensington section of Philadelphia where Kobylinski took shelter.

Volleyball drops heartbreaker to rival Neumann

The Cabrini women's volleyball team suffered a heart -wrenching loss on Saturday, Nov. 8, at Neumann College in the Colonial States Athletic Conference championship. This season not only marked the first time the women went to the conference final in program history but it was also a program- record 20- win season.

Women’s volleyball heads to second round

The third-seeded women's volleyball team soared to a 3-0 win to advance to the second round of playoffs against the sixth-seeded College of Notre Dame on Tuesday, Nov. 4. Junior Lizzie Williams lead the lady Cavs with a team-high 27 assists. Junior Traci Beltz and recently named Colonial States Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year Alexis Doss each registered eight kills.

Fans of all ages sported Cabrini College knit hats on Monday, Sept. 8 at Cabrini Night at the Phillies. Cabrini students, families, alumni and faculty filled the pavilion deck as the Phillies took on the Florida Marlins at Citizens Bank Park on a clear fall evening.

With the current green trend sweeping the nation, colleges and universities are jumping on the bandwagon and taking steps towards reducing their carbon footprints. Two-man circus entertains students

As students came together in Grace Hall, they were treated to the magic and juggling talents of the two-man show "Adult Circus." On Monday, Feb. 4, Cabrini hosted the act that has entertained audiences across the country. After meeting each other while attending Penn State University, Michael DuBois and Chris Chelko formed a duo that brings sideshow talents together and entertains people across the country.

Award-winning poet pays a visit to Cabrini

Award-winning poet Nikki Giovanni paid a special visit to Cabrini and shared her esteemed literature with the cavalier campus on Tuesday, Feb. 5. As members of the community poured into the Grace Hall atrium, President Antoinette Iadorola introduced a friend to the audience and provided an opportunity to hear one of the most influential African-American writers of all time.

Extreme karaoke entertains eatery

As students flooded the Marketplace on Tuesday, Jan. 29, they were also flooded with karaoke tunes as they dined. Toner Sound from Aston, Pa. was in Cabrini's marketplace for the second time playing songs we all know and love to sing with. Anyone who wanted to could sing a song of their choice as students ate their dinner and watched.

Eve’s Band Makes Noise in New Orleans

A New Orleans-based group, Eve's Lucky Planet (also known as the Lucky Planet Band) is one that displays all the characteristics of Crescent City. With riff-based rhythms and mixed major and minor tonalities, Eve's Lucky Planet band is hard to place under one genre of music.

Chorus warm hearts with carols

On Sunday, Dec. 2, the Cabrini College Chorus entertained a crowd in Grace Hall. Preparing since September, members of the chorus sang both classical pieces as well as classical carol music for the holiday. As Dr. Adeline Bethany directed the chorus, the audience listened as each vocal section flowed together to create a soothing festive atmosphere.

Drowsy driving is deadly driving

The week of Nov. 5-11 launched the first annual Drowsy Driving Prevention Week sponsored by The National Sleep Foundation. The week promoted a national campaign to save the lives of young drivers by raising awareness of the dangers of drowsy driving and provided resources for advocacy at the state level.

‘The Laramie Project’ comes to life

On Thursday, Nov. 1 members of the Cabrini Theatre opened its doors to perform the powerful and poignant play "The Laramie Project." With 16 cast members portraying over 70 different characters, "The Laramie Project" is a play by Moisés Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theater Project about the reaction to the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyo.

Men’s cross country captures PAC title

It was a rainy Saturday morning when the men's cross country team captured the 2007 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference championship on Oct. 27 at Belmont Plateau in Fairmount Park. Though the women's team did not place for the finals, the men competed at the PAC championships during difficult conditions and non-stop rain throughout the day.

Baseball club advances in season

The Cabrini baseball club has quietly broken barriers and significantly improved since its inception only three years ago. The team of 22 dedicated players is arguably the best it's been since the club began in 2004. The Cabrini baseball club is a member of the National Club Baseball Association.

DiTaranto fights to regain title

The women's tennis team continues to dominate the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference as they increase their record-breaking win streak to 41. Leading the way is junior co-captain Dina DiTaranto. As this issue's player of the week, DiTaranto has just one loss in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference this season.
